All Corolla owners please beaware where you park your car.

Audio systems
Emblems
Wheel caps

They havnt left the ECU too.

Last friday we went for Namaz on coming back rear quater glass was broken and the car failed to start, the deck was there, nothing seemed unchanged.

No body even bothered thinking that the ECU could be stolen :S, The car was towed to Toyota Central and we got to know the ECU was stolen.

Is it that easy i noe its just a clip and a couple of screws but thats freaking crap, its costs around Rs70,000. Altho the car was insured but its a 2008 we would be paying around 40% depreciation.

Since the engine is same in the 9th and the 10th Gen, so thoose cars arnt safe either, once a person gets into ur car, weather its behind the dash or inside the hood it can be stolen.

Becareful everyone.

I suggest the owners, find a way to unplug the box and take it along when the car is left unattended, 9th and 10th gen have easy access to ECU.

what all shud we pack bro ? wheelcups, emblems, side mirrors, stereos, gear knobs, headlghts, rear lights ??? wat all CAN u save afterall....this is not the solution to "pack it and take it away with u"...the solution is to give a BIG dunda to ppl whose duty it is to ensure no one dares to even think of such a thing

We cant realy blame any one, Its happening mostly because the car is in alot of numbers these days, other then that all EFI cars, even a 200,000 Mini Pajero caries a ECU unit, and its accecible as easy as of a Rolceroyce.

The only way to stop it, that we stop buying sasta, Kabli, choori ka, samaan.

We should prefer brand new stuff, So that they arent stolen at all, They are stolen because the only reason being that they are in demand.

Once demand for such stuff is down, Supply would go down accordingly.

steps like ECU locked to the coded key of the car should be used - but it would be a pipe dream in Pakistan. The old Suzuki Baleno was the first Pakistani made car to have a similar system.

Old ECUs from the scrap yard did not work as they required input from the immobiliser module. Putting in a locally stolen ECU also was not a guaranteed repair as they were 3 different types of immobilisers used in the production run.

a note for BMW ecu stealers.

In BMW there is a chip in ecu that will make another ecu work wrong in a car even if ecu gets stolen.so there is no point to steal a ecu.

you have to send the chassis code to BMW to buy car computers.

That was the old Bosch Motronic ECUs - the famous ECU flooding in the E36 chassis had be buy a dozen VW Golf motronic ECUs and swapping their chips over from the BMW unit.
