This is the biggest problem in Pakistan and even with Pakistani awaam living outside of Pakistan.
For them "fine" is a set control point they made up in their minds - and they dont understand that the reason control specs are published is to be clear and precise coming across anyone.
e.g. ask a generic Pakistani electrician if their tools are safety rated to work on 440? - they will show their nitto taped pliers and say - "its fine" completely disregarding the original question. - Then they add words like MashAllah and InshaAllah and Allah ki marzi etc etc.
coming back to fuel pumps - for an average layman a fuel pump that looks the same as original and is 90% cheaper is best because for them the original part is marked up for maximum profits from the supplier. While completely forgetting that the pump they are replacing is a critical part that has a very large input in drivability and its replacement requiring extensive labour too.
Ive had so many cars come to me with drivability concerns involving knock at mid range, loss of power, surging power band, fuel trim codes too.
75% of the times the culprits are cheap knockoff pattern parts like fuel pumps, MAF, MAP sensors, injectors, coolant sensors etc - the other 25% is either part EOL and/or damaged wiring etc.
I understand that people dont have tons of cash lying around to buy genuine parts, but I give them an example (specially if they own a toyota/Honda/subaru/mazda vehicle) - that the original part lasted so long and well because of that "approved quality" sticker they see on the package. - I dont even install aftermarket thermostats either, Way too many crazy parts there that either make the engine run too cold or too hot.
