Cultus vxr weak rings?

Hi all, my car got heatup by my dad on motorway,some how het got it fixed, mechanic also changed gas kit, not sure what else, but now car gives a lot of smoke+oil is reducing too much, mechanic in lhr says rings are weak now,
1- he says total cost of the work is 20k, is that true?
2- he says then for 2 years your car will be fine, my question is only 2 years??? Means I will have to do this every two years? 2007 model vxr I have

I have been through same situation but the car was different it was mehran.. the car got heated up and on the second day changed its gasket but after few days I observed that the car started to give blue smoke in the morning's but it used to be fine all the day.. I showed my car to a expert in pindi he told me that the value seals are farigh you need to open up the head for that for changing them up.. I don't think rings are the issue... if the smoke is continuous then maybe rings are effected .. anyhow lets see more answers on this.

well if you make only basic repairs like only rings replacement then it will last only this long. but if you get a full overhaul like new sleeves and bore. new pistons and valves then it will last as long as before

this is why i recomnd evry1 to stand on the mech's head as they do often lie
new rings will work as long as the old ones if the sleeves are fine btw in ur case i guess u dont have access blow by only on start up go to a good mech and get it cleared

@poster spoonmotorsports said very well i would like to elaborate it when the mec open the head of the engine go nd look it by urself nd ask the mec to tell u how it is judged tht there is need of rings replacement by keeping in mind tht (rings r changed when play is increased between sleave nd the ring,to judge it keep ur both thumbs adjecntly on the upper side of piston nd try to move it if it shakes in the sleeve nd it seems loose then it means rings ARE TO BE CHANGED)thts why the rings take up oil nd u get smoke at the back u can judge it by urself by the tip ive given above.
nd to me....it seems tht u have to change ur valves,valve seats,guides,head facing,head gas kit for sure although uve got a new one but it'l b necsry to get a new one once head is dismentled from the block.remember"DON'T GET NEW RINGS IF THEY R FIRM AT THEIR POSITION''

nd rings are not worth of spending 20k its bit high.
i did the same with my old santro i.e changed the rings,gas kit,valves,valve seats,guides,plugs,head face etc etc etc.. nd all costed me about 14,000.

@poster as the car eats oil so there is problem at the side of valve seals.....

1. 20k for only rings replacement is false,not more than 5-6k (even full overhaul will not cost so much)

2. 2 years guarantee is also wrong, if u maintain it properly can last upto 200k

nobody can comment without seeing ur car, but smoke means there is some problem

once i went thru it long time ago,my car give smoke at start up plus on red lights if I. Accelerate on idle at that time, i added "STOP" oil by STP which i poured in engine oil, after that smoke problem solves temporary(if giving too much smoke, then save environment by adding stp oil )

20k just for Helper rings is way too high... He is crazy...

There are two ways round it bro...

Get your car engine opened... Check the pistons.. If there is play present in the pistons round the bore and they are moving way too much, Helper rings won't work even six months...

In that case you will have to go for partial overall..

Now what is a partial overall?

1. When u're low on cash and don't want to invest much
2. You get pistons replaced with over-sized pistons

Now what happens to the engine.... Yes interesting.. It becomes partially new... As the pistons are very new now.. You won't need helper rings...

What else would happen if i went for an over sized piston

1. would the car overheat? NO!!

2. would the consumption be affected?

yes because your'e torque would change definitely..

1. You will not need helper rings

2. You would have to get your'e bore sized up to the exact size of the new oversized pistons which would cost you about 2500 to 3000 .

3. You would need valve seals replaced

4. Head gasket definitely

5. You might notice a decline in the average of your car since the pistons are now slightly oversized. But that will be like a 5 to 10km reduction... Assuming ur car was doing a 140km per cylinder before, now it would be 130km...

AND THAT IS IT... Pistons would cost greater than 3k i guess or 2.5k maybe\

But that is what you would have to do only IF THERE IS TOOOO MUCH PLAY in the pistons!!

Or helper rings would work also if the play is very little (almost negligible )

Im really amazed to see change rings, overhaul your engine - GUYS THIS IS AN AUTO FORUM.

do it the correct way - get a compression test done and work accordingly. Dont shoot parts at your car hoping to fix it.

If u change rings it will cost u 5-7 thousand, and it will lasts only 2 years or 3 years if u regularly use ur car. but if enginer is over hauled it will cost u 17 - 22 thousand around.

Firstly our mechanics have very delicate hands - they dont even like the thermostat valve in the engine because they feel the engine temperature by touch, the valve caused blisters on their hands.

SO I doubt it.

anyways - that is the most silliest thing Ive heard.
