CVT Fluid for Honda - Need Help

My civic is facing cvt issues. Accelerating from stand still it makes a big jerk. Got plugs, injectors, coils checked but problems has been pointed towards cvt. Any reliable person in Lahore who does CVT work of Honda Civics.

I have been told that my gear has become faulty. Oil Change won't fix it. What should I do? New gear (kabli) is around 200k plus.. Need a reliable and honest guy who knows and works on cvt honda gears to diagnose and give an expert honest opinion.

Check cvt fluid level first or replace fluid with proper quantity it must drip from the check bolt

I wonder what's the use of buying a new over priced car when you have to spend so much money to maintain it.

Is it to show off?

It is much better and wiser to buy a used car at half the price of a new car and keep it maintained.

My Honda Reborn never gives so much trouble and it is nearly a 14 years old car!!!

Your reborn have old reliable manual transmission.
These new CVT and DCT transmissions are full of issues. Plus they are expensive to maintain. They fail at almost half the life of manual or traditional automatics.

But we have to accept the fact that these transmissions are here to stay for long time. Automakers love CVTs due its fuel economy benefits and consumers like it due to its smooth drive due to absense of gears.

Personally, I would never go for kabli CVT because these transmission are fragile and break anytime. We never know how kabli transmission was used and maintained. I suggest to go with new CVT from Honda if you can afford. It may cost up to PKR 1 million.

One major mistake that owners do in maintaining CVT is not changing the fluid at 2 years mark. Honda suggests 40,000 km or 2 years which ever comes first. You have to change the CVT fluid at 2 years mark irrespective of the mileage

Honda Point representative said new gear is for 7 lakhs but again this is insane. My car is 2018 model. Its only driven 55k. How can the cvt have issues just like that! And this is a common issue in these civics therefore Honda should repair them or replace them free of cost.

By the way they replaced my fuel filter motor which was working fine already for free under some scheme from Honda Point for 2018 models and above. STRANGE they don't see these transmission issue a problem.

I have already used Civic reborn for 8 years before switching to this chappy civic x. Believe me it never caused me any issue. Though it was a manual, it gave me such driving pleasure. Only main issue I had was with its steering rack leaking the power fluid. It was a big problem for quite some time

CVT issues are not only common with Civics. It's a worldwide issue with majority of the automakers. CVTs by design is not reliable as traditional automatics or manual transmissions. They have to be taken care of otherwise they fail very early like yours. Not only fluid changes are important, but also consistently launching the vehicle is stressful for the CVT.

Funny thing is now every car is coming with cvt. City too. And now I saw that altis 1.6 also will be given cvt transmission.

Honda guy said gear will be changed . I consulted with a mechanic outside who repairs cvt. He asking 45k

The reason for that is, engineers are forced to improve fuel economy at the expense of reliability. They have to meet certain fuel economy numbers for the tax benefits in the west.
Toyota and Honda CVTs are considered better than the rest of the automakers. The least reliable is NIssan CVTs which are made by Jatco. Jatco CVTs are installed in wide variety of vehicles, including Suzuki and Mitsubshi. The new Suzuki swift launched in Pakistan have Jatco CVT and people are buying it with eyes closed. I won't be surprised to see Swift CVT failures at 60,000 km or even earlier.

Dealerships around the world don't repair CVTs. They only offer replacement. This is common in the USA as well.
You should ask for reviews for the repair shop. Ask them how many Honda CVTs they have rebuild? Also ask for reviews for the repair shop here on Pakwheels or on social media.

Which mechanic/shop is this? Maybe someone can give feedback on this.
