CVT Noise - Suggestion Needed

Since last 10 days there is a weird noise in car. I took the car to my mechanic and he says its noise from gear box. Later took it to Khan Motors and he said the same thing.

When car reaches speed of 30-40 then a girr girr sound start coming and increases with speed. Noise stays even if car is put in neutral at speed. Had the car jacked up and then run in D mode and checked axle too.

Any suggestions what to do? Can CVT be repaired or replaced? Estimated cost for both? Any specific mechanic for CVT issues diagnosis in Karachi?

Mileage is 28K.

CVT fluid was flushed coz of checking axle. It was fine and quantity was ok too on gauge. No smell.

dear have you considered the wheel bearing? grr grrr sound is typical of wheel bearings.

you cannot actually check whether bearings are okay or not..even after removing the brake calipers and axles...as the sound may appear at certain speed and then disappear..

Yes thats where the diagnosis started. I had the car for 3 months now around 23K milage in japan and 6K in khi. It was going smooth until this noise started.

Actually car was hit from right side in japan and wheel was a bit bent. We thought noise was due to shocker. So I had its right shocker repaired through Afzaal in rubber market and he referred to a alignment guy who pulled the chamber out and wheel was aligned. However noise still there.

Alignment guy said its wheel bearing noise. So I took car to mechanic who said wheel has very light noise but actual noise is in middle of axles. His diagnosis was that he has to open gear for further investigation. Then I went to Khan Motors in defence and he took 2 hours (and Rs. 1000) to rule out bearing, axle and suspension noise. He also concluded it is gear noise and that he cannot repair it due to uncertainty about parts.

My mechanic is ready to open gear but labour is at least 8K he says and parts separate.

Noise is increasing day by day....

CVT gearbox can't be repaired, it has to be replaced. Make sure its the gearbox, if it is, use it till it dies and then get another

in the N transmission is disengaged and vehicle movement is due to forward momentum [ aka inertia ] it may not be noisy transmission but the bad drive axles .. KRR KRR sound in straight motion is weak axle joints, worn out or physically damaged.

Hmm noise I am getting is very similar to the sound/noise in last quarter of this video.

Could possibly be some gear box bearing as suggested in this video.

Does the vehicle have any other issues, besides the noise. Like any performance issues?

Nop nothing. Average is good/same. I had oil and filter changed from Honda 3S about 1500 km back and MAX air filter replaced last month from market. Its been really smooth since. Alhamdolillah.

Just one of those noises that eats ur days, I guess. Hope it resolve soon.

Btw, Couple of times car was hit on speed breaker may be coz of that some noise developed (I thought?) but mechanic ruled it out too. Anyways, I also had spacers installed too by Afzaal (rubber market) couple of days back.

to localize the sound of transmission both axles need to be unplugged from transmission.

Left axle was unplugged and checked. It was untouched. Right axle wasn't removed.

I was just thinking can we run the car (on jack) with both axle removed? I am very naive here. Is it possible? And if yes would it cause any damage to cvt/engine?

I have a similar opinion of them now. Btw, I was referred to them by Honda 3S Quaideen motors workshop. The mechanic at Honda said we deal with PKDM and you need to goto Honda 2S Khan Motors for JDM. Seriously are they 2S?

I have my office in defense and the nearest I go for car work is FTC to an old mechanic who has now moved there (adjacent chipa center under FTC bridge saddar side).

Then it's not the gearbox. If it was the gearbox, then there would be an issue, either power or efficiency related. And if the noise doesn't come when static, then it's something to with the suspension related parts, bearings somewhere are making noise, just need to be sure where. If there isn't noise when revved and in P, then it's not something in the engine. If it were wheel bearings, there would slight vibration at high speeds..

Irshad has suggested to change/fill up gear oil but they dont have HMMF.

Gear oil gauge is a bit lower than second point.

Where can I find HMMF?

Came to Honda Quaideen and they say go to Khan Motors.

for 660 class you do not need HMMF it is for Hybrid Transmission vehicles only, you can get Honda CVTF from open market
