Dear Pakwheelers...i am currently thinking to start a project of Daihatsu Rocky. The main purpose of the project is overlanding plus Offroading. Suggest me with your opinions on engine, transmission as i am intrested in Automatic transmission to enjoy long rides. Please suggest me with good people in rawalpindi and islamabad who can install these engine diff gears and are pros in such project. For engine i am currently thinking of 2L and 3l Engines as i dont want any type of electronics so that can be repaired by any diesel mechanic anywhere. please suggest me with your kind opinion. 3 questions:

1. which year model variant the Rocky is ?
2. are you willing to participate for the task as in physically involved to do the job ?
3. Do you really know where and how to search for items in a scrapyard.

if the answer to 2 & 3 is not likely or may be

then you will be totally depending upon the workshop doing the task. Make sure money chest have enough to pop when asked. Please be sure when attempting to hold the bull by horn,

kindly check this video ,,,,,,, this guy prepare a rocky jeep with 2L- engine ,,,,,,,,2L down model with silver aluminum valve cover (the one i am overhauling these days) is not a good option ,,,,, as it has a head crack issue ,,,,,,, this 2L-TE comes with electronic governor,,,,,,,, if you find this engine with complete wiring harness then it will be a good option ,,,,,,,, and if you want to stay away from electronics then i suggest you to go for a 3L,,,,,, 2L without electronic pump is a dam lazy engine ,,,,,, by the way i personally like that 2L-TE engine ,,,,, also you can get it cheap ,,,,,,, about 8 to 9 month i check its price and Australian import was available in 110k at sadar mithu khan RWP ,,,,,,,, i still have its pic ,,,,, let me check in my cell phone ,,,,,,,

currently thinking of 88 or 91 model. both are under negotiation.
for question 2, no sir, i am not a technical person. i will be part of whole rebuild of project. suggest me a good mechanic and denter for whole project.
3. yes i know bazars in sadar...and IJP road but dont know any specific person as i am new in whole thing.

what about trans and differentials.... i am thinking of an auto trans? what are the pros and cons of auto trans as compared to manual and fuel consumption difference?

2L non turbo i am using and it gave me around 12km/L ,,,,,,use is very very less,,,,,, may be less then 5000km in 5 year ,,,,,,,3L i have heard 9 to 10 , but not sure ,,,,,, manual gear will gave you batter millage ,,,,,,,, parts of 2L and 3L are available at every corner ,,,,,, available is same as that of mehran parts ,,,,,,,,,

thankyou bro for your kind responce.... so suggest me with transmission i am interested in auto as i am not fond of changing gears and using clutch again and again on long trips... auto trans are reliable of not... what trans should i go for ... i have heard of prado gear... or should i go for any other transmission?

so you are focusing at 200000+ in addition to cost of vehicle.

i'd not recommend to do so.

this stuff is quick sand for novices.

a 4x4 can not be a daily mule for city use.
. figure out the purpose of a 4x4 in your life., how often you go on adventure. Then choose,

if the idea is like bachpan sai shouq, a dream to own for ego shashka, show-off to relative or in your pind
kind of satisfaction etc etc. Kill that, buy something which is easy to handle in traffic, easy to park hassle free and economical for maintenance. ON TOP you have space to park it safely without any threat of damage.

there is a thread of a land criuser 80 series user that can give you insight of comical ordeal. in the end he is happy cleaning ceiling fans after learning how to prevent rust from this forum

I forsee that you will be close to 500,000 rs in repairs as you are not a hands on car guy but mostly a car magazine subscriber.
