@TJ....well heres the situation...raikot bridge to fairy meadows is a 17km track...jeep takes u half way...u walk the rest...assuming the jeep does manage to take u in the winter..which i personally doubt...u will have to walk the rest in seriously deep snow...i asked the hotel maanger at broad view hotel fairy meadows this very question and he told me a story which i shall share with u now...
last year in december, a team of foreigners decided to go to fairy meadows in the winters...same dec time...he said that it took a team of 20 or so ppl 3 days to carve a path of less than a kilometre in the chest deep snow...u are planning on walking 17!! next up is the weather...u CANNOT afford cloud cover in the winter...a slight shift in weather can be very dangerous...if u get stuck there in a snow storm...there wil be NO ONE to help you... third is the path...at places, there is none...it was scary as hell in the summers when we could see..let alone winters when a sheet of white hides it all...4 u will be atleast waist deep in snow so u will get very cold...5 it will take u 2-3 days if u are very active to get to fairy meadows...THe hotel at broadview does however make arrangements for u if u tell them ur coming...but at a place where a boiled egg is for 30 in summers, it will cost u waaay more in the winters for food n all...
u will more or less be forced to stay put...the locals too leave fairy meadows in winters...thats how harsh it gets....
keeping all that in mind...i would advise u to start preparing and training early..as in now...im not trying to discourage you...just laying down the facts...it is possible...people do go..but people go prepared...they camp in the snow and walk small distances in the day cuz of the exhaustion factor...the place is right next to nanga parbat so u can well imagine..my advise? go as a team...if u are the adventurous sort, it will be a memorable trip...u might not even make it all the way to fairy meadows but hey...that uncertainty is part of the fun right??
