BUDDY, V were with family, and manages to take lot of pictures, of the edge of that jeep track, so v were very BRAVE, even the ladies were busy in taking the shots of the left side views while going up, u can see lots of pics in my thread, and there was another jeep on the other side of that bridge, which can drop u at fairy point, actually from 7-12 july when v were there, that jeep was working for all teams cmng and going back, and one more thing, there was a team of 5 guys, who used to work in GEO tv, they arrive FM, at mid night 3 AM, and they started there track from fairy point at 0000 hours, ...

Shangrila at Raikot however was closed...and it seemed it had not been operated for quite some time...so here stuck at Raikot with nothing but a few shops and jeeps, we made the decision pending for so long, we would park the bug at raikot and take a jeep which would drop us close to the village of tatu...from there on, we would trek to fairy point hotel and head to fairy meadows the next morning...

and so begins the jeep drive on one of the scariest tracks i have seen...i dont have pictures of the scary bit tho cuz i was too busy staying in the jeep and avoiding looking down...

So a group of us friends decided that it would be fun to go on a road trip to the north...it is after all, one of the most beautiful regions of the country...
fair enough...lets do it...and while we are at it, why not throw in a VW beetle? and just to make things interesting, lets make it a 1200 economy bug...
hmm...still not quite there...what will be absolutely absurd I ask!!
the reply? lets take her to deosai plains with an average height of 14,500 feet and babusar pass at 13,000 feet( more or less) purely "jeepable" tracks with mud, ice, glaciers, water crossings and lots and LOTS of rocks... NOW its interesting...lets go!!

@Rebel: Awesome trip & adventure, the whole area is so great that if you go once you are deeply in love with those places & want to go again & again.

I last visited in 2006 & have been planning ever since to go again, hopefully next year will take my young son & show paradise on earth.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed your witty captions & comments, I would like to thank you for giving me (and surely many of us) the moments of pleasure in stressful environment of today's Pakistan.

My suggestion, once you complete your photo journal, please upload in flickr or something & let people see, both in & out of Pakistan; What a great country we have been blessed with ! & How fun loving, brave, ambitious, dedicated our youth (most of it) is !

@raheeln haha yea people were pretty brave there but that was too much for me...so i decided il keep my camera safe inside the jeep n do the same with myself:P
the jeep on the other side annoyingly was not present when we got there...im guessing it took some one else..so we walked it instead...
the night trekking was NOT our piece of cake...we had plenty of time on our hands and we were supposed to be at raikot or chilas anways around this time...so being ahead of schedule, we decided to stay the night...our porter kept insisting we go ahead but we decided it was best k sakoon karain aur subha niklain... early morning we were supposed to leave around 5 am but there was some serious rain...we waited and in that time, decided we would take horses when it stopped...
it seems your family has some strong hearted people mate!! we were there on the same dates as the GEO person...maybe we met at fairy meadows...whre did u stay??

u can watch my thread, its there fro many days, and v also stayed at Broad View, and more surprisingly the same hut was taken by my sis and his husband, and my ruksek was also in the same hut, which is next to their kitchen, and u stayed also in the same hut, v actually take all their huts, all 4 of them, v were total 17, 5 ladies, 5 kids, ........v also played a match with local fairy village walay, on july 10, and then GEO team also joines the same match, on their return from Beyal camp......where were u.....

the trip just gets more and more interesting as it goes on. i think you deserve a medal or something that you did the trip in your VW. Mash'Allah you've put EVERYONE in the VWCOP to shame with this trip and you now have full rights to call EVERYONE in the club a wimp for not driving from pindi to islamabad for a meet (or vice versa).
