in 1st world countries, engines are overhauled - specially for trucks like land cruisers as they are rare. On the other end of spectrum can be a chevy 3800 - you can buy it at a karyana store too - its rebuilt crates are always 100% (everyone in USA along with their dada/perdada, their mother in law, her horse, the horses girlfriend knows how to make a chevy 3800 work)
You have choices though, you can buy a built up crate engine or get a mechanic (not parts changer) to rebuild it at a machine shop. Some machine shops here give you a turnkey solution too, they will remove and rebuild it for you.
My experience with built up crate engine has been dodgy - got a mazda MZR with wrong pistons in it causing the CR to be 12:1 (knock knock) - another was a jag/mazda/ford duratec 3.0 with an oil pump that would not prime. its a 50% chance its going to be ok.
engine rebuild is slightly expensive than the above - takes time, but the good thing is that mechanic is in control/infront of everything. You need to pay for a good mechanic, not a parts changer - that always results in bad news.
