i dont get it dude.
cuz em running direct fa n in khyber 99..
the fan strts as the car is switched yet the temperature gauge goes to almost half mark after long drive in hot weather...so if em running it automatic/
mean the radiator fan will work at HALF gauge.
then the needle will go raising ..
wont this b harmful;l???
n wen did it actually strts to harm the engine?
i mean whr the needle is alarming??

when you go on long drives does your temp gauge goes above the half mark ( like around 3/4th of the gauge) or does it just goes to half mark and stays there for the rest of the journey. if its going reasonably above the half mark (hovering around 3/4 of the gauge) even with a direct fan, than your car is overheating man.!!

• Yaar the idea is that
  • Cold engine consumes more fuel than a warm engine. Our engine temp is supposed to be around 82 degrees C for the optimum mixture to be produced and burnt.

* Direct fans  + removal of thermostat valve actually delays this process of engine warming significantly, thus you will be burning fuel inefficiently  and hence low mileage.

• I would say anything about 3/4th of the gauge is dangerous. As it indicates that the engine is well above its optimum temperature and above this line will a point well engine seize will occur ( Pistons expansion due to temp. is so much that they get stuck in the chamber they work in!!).

From what i know, exact middle point denotes 100 degrees and not 82.5

i say whether it is hot or cold winter or summer always drive car with auto fan
if ur fan is direct and still gauge goes to half it shows ur car is overheating bcuz as ur fan is on every time so engine shud not go above min level so better pay attn on ur cooling system
convert to auto fan and never go back to direct fan as it not a helhty practice 4 ur car
gauge athalf is not harmfull but it is good 4 engine
above 3\4 gauge it is alarming
keep it in mind that if ur cooling system is good then even in summers hot day time gauge never cross half gauge if it does it represents ur faulty cooling system

direct fan not only hurts ut engine but also eaqt ur fuel
lo mileage vibrant engine and under powering r the blesssings of direct fan

byut auto fan makes engine stabl early burns fuel comnpletely and engine delivers fullk power u need

half gauge is fruitfull ok
at half needle fan will not let engine go above half unless faulty coolin sys ok

take my advic convert to auto fan n enjoy ur ride

or u can conveert to auto fan 4 a test
switch over to auto fan n fell diference in pick ,accel, mileage smoothness in egine and power it delivers

if u r satisfied then stivk to it dont listen ti anybody
and dont ever convert to direct if there is summer:d:d:d:d

You should be asking this question other way around.
mere pyaray bhai, every new car in Pakistan has a thermostat valve and an autostart radiator fan. Laikin you dont hear about them heating up, do you. Instead you hear they have max speed of 140-160 kms or give mileage of 12-13 kms. You might have been using direct fan for years and didnt notice anything, but it is a slow poison ( oil in combustion chamber, oil on plugs etc), but auto fan + thermo valve is counted as a very good practice and keeps your engine healthy ( This is a fact!). To mere bhai, if you have the money, why not go for something which is better for your car engine.
I hope you know the price range

Rs 450-500 for Japanese Automatic radiator switch
Rs 650-700 for genuine Suzuki Thermostat valve. ( Most probably your mechanic has removed this valve as well so to make engine more THANDA!!!).
Rs ~100 for mazdoori.

let me tell you one thing which i have tested and i am speaking from my experience. When the car is running, the air hitting the radiator makes water more cooler than water in ther radiator of a standing car even with a running radiator fan. This helps dissipate extra energy generated by engine. I am speaking of this from my experience. When I had only auto fan in my car ( no thermovalve). Although the temp used to reach optimum temp. and fan used to start automatically, but when the car was running the temp gauge always used to show temp below the centre point although the running car generate more heat then a idling one, so it should have shown a higher temp. Anyway, kehnay ka matlab yeh hai kay dont fear it. Its a good thing and does not have negative impact. But after installing it you have to make sure that the cooling system is always clean since residue will block the thermostat valve resulting in overheating of the car.

r japanese mad that they provide a useless thing ????????? no they r not but our mechanics and electritians hav no knowledge about auto mobile they just know how and where to bolt nut n thats all
auto fan tends to keep optimum temp required by the engine and direct fgan prevents engine from being heat up to optimum tempo which result in engine detonation and under powering of engine , lo mileage , lop pick n accel so whas left all thes r blessings of direct fan
so i advic u to install thermostat valve and convert to auto fan switch and use it in summers toooo
u said ur car has direct fan but still it goes to half gauge it shows fault in ur cooing system as much i hav expereinced that direct fan does not allow engine to heat byond min level and needle remains in 180 degree angle so pay attn on ur cooling system

if cooling system is healthy than it does push engine above half needle

i myself was a victim of this evil
and bliv digimanpk was also using direct fan days back he is now using auto fan and seems 2 b happy

dont listen 2 anybody make a research and do it beteer to do it now and feel diference in mileage , pick , acceleration

just try to fill water to top regularly and thats all dont worry
needle above 3\4 gaugge is alarming

Normal temprature in cars is 40% on the guage. Slightly below middle mark. COLD is NOT the normal mark. 40-45% on the gauge is!

Yaar You told me that your temp guage never gets pass half mark isnt it ???????

The pics you have shown are strange but I know a possibility that might explain why your car temp is acting strangely. And my Reason is,

Although your fan is direct, the thermostat valve on your engine is still there. Tell me now

A) when you start your car and leave it for idle. Does your temp gauge still goes half way?.

B) How long does it takes it to reach half way.????? because if it takes only a minute or two just idling steady or with light use of accelerator to reach half mark, then it means that your thermostat valve is installed and working and since its closed ( and wont let water in from the radiator) until the temp reaches the desired degree, therefore your engine temp will rise.

If it takes longer like 10-15 min ,with you driving also. then it means that there is no thermostat valve installed. and despite the constant cooling from radiator and direct fan, you car IS heating up and you should pay attention to it.

Its alrite yaar!!.. I mean I know now that its a good thing to why not spread the word. Plus there are alot of people who have direct fan and want to do this , but dont do it because either they dont realise the importance or they just need a gentle push. So, better be gentle and leave the decision onto them. Believe me , its a very good strategy.

AND ABOUT MY CAR :

its 101 kms from the 10 litre and it is still going. The tank is empty now and hopefully the car will stop after 3-4 kms. so thats 10.5 kms/ litre. NOT BAD!!!...

yar its first tym tht needle went tht mark..
the water level is always @ full mark..
the radiator was serviced month before wen engine was overhauled...
was wandering if i did it automatic...the needle will go outta gauge...lolol
yar i ma self want automatic fan cuz in morning the car vibrates wen strtd so ive to keep it idle for 5 minz..
the needle dont goes up wen idle but still manages to go to 25% if kept idle for 15-20 minz.
also plz attach the thermostat picture.
i think i t was removed but i actually dun knw how it look lyk n whr it is intalled...
wat mite b the problem then..

Yaar I seriously think that there is a problem with your cooling system ( I assume your guage is working fine). Get the gauge checked first. if its ok, then your cooling system needs repair. Get it cleaned. Maybe its clogged. Coz i know that your fan is direct and there is no thermostat valve ( since the engine takes long time to reach only 25% temp). Is the water in the bottle or radiator dirty??..

Yes I have... and have you ever heard or correct wording? Because that’s what you need...

Refer to it as thermostat not thermostat valve... If the thermostat is bad... what are you going to say... the thermostat is bad? Or thermostat valve is bad?

And yes I know what a thermostat does... here is a brief explanation... and this is what I learned in college...

The thermostat controls the minimum operating temperature of the engine. The maximum operating temperature is controlled by the amount of heat being produced by the engine at the time and cooling system's ability to dissipate heat. The technical definition of a thermostat is a temperature responsive control valve. The thermostat controls the temperature and amount of coolant entering the radiator. While the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed, allowing coolant to circulate only inside the engine. This allows the engine to warm up uniformly and eliminates hot spots. When the coolant reaches the opening temperature of the thermostat, the thermostat begins to allow coolant to the radiator. The hotter the coolant gets, the more the thermostat opens, allowing more coolant to flow through the radiator.

So if the fans are on all the time... coolant is going to cool down much faster causing the thermostat to close/open more often. It makes the cooling cycle fast.

on hi way i agree more air flow through radiator but dont forget 1 factor that more the speed means more work n more work more needs energy needed n more energy burns more fuel result in what ?????????

More speed doesn't mean the engine is working hard... if you're travelling at 100km/h... the car is probably like in 4th gear... higher gears mean less load on engine... causing it to produce less heat...

Faulty plugs cause the engine to misfire... worn out plugs cause low mileage... there is a difference....

If you drop a plug on ground and put it in the engine... it may be broken or faulty... and will likely cause engine misfire... not low mileage!

Wrong...

The temperature is controlled by thermostat... if the fans are direct... the engine would still reach its normal operating temperature...I don't think it goes down to -30 -40 in Pakistan... does it?

In Canada it does... and I have seen a few cars with both fans direct and a lot of Hondas with one fan direct... and they all still reach the normal operating temperature!

Man it's simply called thermostat... Not thermostat valve...You can't just buy thermostat valve and insert it in the thermostat housing... You buy the thermostat whole... If the thermostat is faulty... You replace the the thermostat... not just the valve. Valve (piston) is just a small component in thermostat.

In a way they are right... In Pakistan, the roads are not so good and there is more stop and go traffic... the transmission changes gear more often... engine works much harder in stop and go traffic... They all cause more heat... Direct fan with thermostat is not a bad option considering hot weather in Pakistan.

All cars had thermostat since like 90's? Thermostat is a MUST even with direct fans...

If your car has direct fans and it the gauges read 50% than your car is running prefect… In summer it shouldn’t take more than 2-3 minutes for the engine to warm up... In winter it can take up to 15 minutes.

And PLEASE everyone… get this thing… The engine’s cooling system uses “Coolant” NOT water…

It all depends on the thermostat ratings. Thermostats must start to open at a specified temperature - normally 1.6 C (3 F) above or below its temperature rating.

The operating temperature is 101.6 C

Thermostat starts to open @ around 105 C

And the fans go on at approxmately 110C (230F)

I believe most thermostats start to open at 105 C (not all)

@ At 80 C the car is cold and thermostat stays in closed position

Some cars use use high-temperature thermostats to jack up the engine temperature.
