Car has sluggish acceleration and rough idle. I briefly inspected throttle body by removing the airbox and saw that it is dirty and has black muck inside. It’s been about 10-15k kms since last cleaned so I think its due.

Are you getting throttle body error codes? Or has someone told you that a 4cyl aluminium engine should be quieter than a tomb and smoother than a turbine?

I am diagnosing it myself. I don’t have an OBD2 scanner at home but judging by the muck visible inside the throttle body, that seems to be the culprit. No check engine light showing.

Throttle cleaning is only done when its actively causing issues - like its literally caked with coal a few millimeters thick, What you see is probably just a dusting of oil which is completely normal.

Be very careful cleaning it as you can ruin the throttle blade axle bushings with too much solvent. I doubt you will have results you want.

Its better to have equipment to check the health of the engine rather than go by ear and feel. The equipment is not just a scan tool.

Are you in Lahore? If so, do you know of any good mechanic? Cos the ones I usually find are mostly inexperienced with regards to my car (City Steermatic).

This is all normal and within control specifications.

Did someone tell you this is abnormal? Or are you deducing this is abnormal on your own.

I myself am deducing this as abnormal based on what I see and the symptoms I am facing i.e, rough idle, sluggish acceleration, extreme jerking at traffic lights etc. These are the symptoms people have mentioned online of a dirty throttle body.

You probably have a vacuum leak in the intake somewhere. Do some diagnosis rather than shotgunning the problem on assumptions, that will surely burn a hole in your pockets

I don't see how cleaning the throttle body can burn a hole in my pocket. I am not assuming anything, I am analysing the symptoms and narrowing it down to the root cause to which I believe is the throttle body.

Anyhow, thanks for your advice. I have read that if there was a vacuum leak, my car dashboard will display a check engine light and my car doesn't. I will get it inspected though.

Oh btw, about a year ago I bought new chinese ignition coils and replaced my qabli ones. Was that a bad idea? Should I revert to qabli?

Not all vacuum leaks will show a check engine lamp, a small intermittent leak will never set a check light but may show up as the idle motor steps being too low.

And the throttle body can be damaged by cleaning it too aggresively,

But its your choice to do as you please.

G raja g it originally came with copper tip spark plugs but iridiums and platinums can be used by looking at compatibility recommended in plugs catalogue. And of course performance and fuel economy has improved Alhamdulillah and iridium tip last longer mileages upto 50-60K kilometers whereas copper ones only last 15-20K kilometers

Yes my car had also become sluggish and had poor idling when I had opened up throttle body back in 2016. Alhamdulillah the car became perfectly charm Alhamdulillah after the cleaning of TB and especially IACV was having carbon debris layer near to chocking which was necessary to clean. Since 2016 I didn't open up TB again and relying on TB cleaners spray only.
Previously I used "STP" named TB cleaner which I used to purchase from metro cash & carry Islamabad but it isn't available now. Now use Tb cleaner which everr brand is available online

And I never did any obd scanning at that time in 2016 when I opened up TB. I had gut feeling of debris buildup inside iacv galleys and need for tb to be opened. Though I am myself engineer Alhamdulillah and did same cleaning of TB of my 2nd car santro the Throttle plate of which was badly hindering in it's movement due to huge thick black carbon layer buildup inside throttle bore. So I had to clean it up
