AOA. Hope all good. Today ive started this long awaited n very much sorted after DIY which is more comprehensive than any thread/website available globally for the installation of Cruise Control in the 8th Gen Civic aka REBORN

I can proudly say that Project ' CRUISEMATEC' was a total success. It took me over a year's research,endless hours of web browsing using my phone with GPRS as i had no DSL connection,family's n colleague's annoyance as i was always(n still) glued to the tiny screen of my Nokia phone, working at nite at the cost of my sleep, sleepless nights thinking ways n means to get it to work, risking ECU of my Civic,busting the clockspring, working during the heat of May n Jun without electricity in my garage(to avoid kids interference etc) n what not n what not.......
heres my story........

(still using my phone as laptop HDD is on its way n still not arrived as yet! So it ill be requesting you all to be patient.. PUBLIC pressure is mounting so im forced to write the DIY after ive got clearance/permission by brother Ivans Lee ....)) So here goes the story of PAKISTAN's FIRST EVER CRUISE CONTROL of the PKDM 8th Gen Civic!

UPDATE: CRUISE CONTROL CAN ASLO BE ACTIVATED IN ALL MANUAL 2006- 2012 PAKISTANI CIVICS!!

in 2009 while on vacations in the UK i happen to have an oppurtunity to take a ride in a relatives' type R civic which had the audio and cruise control switches on the leather wrapped steering wheel. I fell in love with it n wondered why Atlas Honda charging near 2 million coudnt give us such features etc..... I made up my mind that id love to have it in my civic back in Pakistan. So decided to buy the steering n see whether i could just fit the steering in the PKDM civic n whether the buttons worked or not it would atleast look good n change the interior look with the elegant wrapped leather on it......
So bought a steering......Euro type R with Audio n Cruise Controls wrapped in leather!!!

before proceeding forward i would like to give credit to fol:
1. ALLAH ALMIGHTY obviously without whose help nothing is possible in this world! N it was because of HIM a lazy n non techy guy like me did what was thought near impossible with our PKDM civic n i believe im the first to break the myth that Cruise Control cant be installed in our local civic!

coming over to the story of Cruisematec, after the steering arrived in Pakistan i tried fixing the steering n successfully manged to fix it. It gave me great pleasure as the whole interior look had changed. Everyone who sat or had a look inside the car would ask me where did you get the steering WOW looking great such unique civic etc etc..... But when a techy would ask do the buttons work i would say ummmmm no they dont they are for cosmetic purposes only....... HERE the so called KEERA started. Why cant they work on our civic what needs to be done etc..... It got me curious. The situation in the country was depressing n wanted to stay away from news but still couldnt live without always being infront of the Tele so i thought why not start researching the web n find some clues,ideas n instructions etc.......

Hahaha Im about to get married after eid and laughed at compliment Supreme Court.

Anyways, seriously i would love to see the whole process and DIY. Would be very informative im sure.
Im not a high techy guy but i know how interesting it is to work yourself on the car. Sometimes u do things (or correct things) which many many techincians/mechanics told u its not possible. I will share a story of my civic in which 3S guys and local mechanics were failed and then that encourages me to do a diy with the electrics and ecu of my civic.

right now sitting at the place where 1 is the most relaxed, most free as you have nothing to do at all n i call it the most thought provoking place for new ideas! Had that stupid NEWTON concentrated earlier n not play with his stuff we would have had the discovery of Gravity much earlier! Hahahaha! Im sitting on the LOO ! Hahahahahahahahahaha!

so after looking at the buttons and always having my fingers on them while driving....(for quite a while) i wondered whether i could get at least the audio controls working.... I googledaround n found a DIY on 8thCivic.com - 8th Generation Honda Civic Forum. It was primarily for the US version n many members from different countries had contributed. I gave it a thoiught n made up my mind to at least try it with the 6 CD changer. As far as i know it was Cylestyne who was the first the first here on PW to have the steering mounted audio controls on his reborn. Connected with his DVD player, He had imported the steering from US/CANADA. He used a swi adapter n 1 of his well reputed electricians did the job for him...THAT was the only information i had from pakwheels regarding the audio coontrols etc... Hence after much research n will to work i picked up my steering n went to my nearest Honda 3s dealer i.e Honda Empire Mirpur AJ&K (had to literally go abroad n out of Pakistan to get the job done lolz!)
there at the dealership i told em what i had in mind n what i wanted to do. They looked at me n said audio n cruise control in the Reborn IMPOSSIBLE! it cant be done. Never done nor heard of it. Many had asked but no one could ever get em installed or to work. So a big SORRY. They wernt willing to work. I convinced them k bhai i have all the material n i can show youthe wiring diagrams etc but no they wouldnt touch it. Further conversation n convincing with a promise that i would take whole responsibilty of the work n Honda Empire nor Atlas would be responsible they finally agreed.. Took over 3 hours they opened the dash, n stereo etc but to no avail. I just had the steering installed n no controls what so ever.... A big big disappointmnet.......spent whole day,fuel,n money to achive nothing....... Zunny was very sad

i had the leather steering on n was driving my car convincing myself that atleast i got the steering fit n the leather felt great.the interior look got more elegant etc etc so Zunny got a bit happy

i had to pick my kids from school, usually it was Supreme Court's duty but due to some reasons i was assigned the task. I hate picking n dropping off kids due to the fact that theres a lot of rush, every1 is in a hurry n u have to be very careful as the kids arent visible in any of 1s mirrors while revering. So all to be very careful outside schools as especially the smaller kids of 3 n 4 . My alto vxr is used for doing such chores but it wasnt availlable so i had to take my car with a heavy heart.
after successfully getting my kids in without putting any scratch onn the car's exterior or inside i gave the left indicator n did a 3 point turn to get on the road n what did i hear a kkkkrrrrich sound as if something had snapped. After getting the car on the road i pressed the horn NO HORN what the F.......... Looked at the cluster airbag light ON WHAT THA.......F F F ! were the words outta my mouth. Angry like hell, cursing my wife why i had to do her duty n why i had to bring my beloved car n not hers etc etc stupid suzuki wala why he had to park the car that i had to do a 3 point turn etcc etc i came to know that i had used such abusive words only when on the complaint of the complaintants (my kids!) i received summons from the Supreme Court aka Begum Sahiba!!

zunny was angry n sad coz of the events that had happened. He was driving in Pakistan where a cycle wala n pedestrian would ride or walk in the middle of the fast lane of motorway had it nt been the horn! (when 1 comes back from abroad u feel that car horns were made only for us Pakistanis n we were doing justice in using them. Had it not been for us these horn making companies wouldve failed n no research etc wouldve been possible!!!) then the airbag light was ON meaning thereby that it was going to be a big hole in the pocket as after all REBORN hae koi mehraan ya FX hae k 100 , 50 mein kaam ho jae ga. N it was the last days of the month where it becomes difficult to buy even food what to talk of supreme court giving me some loan to get her sautan fixed. A big NO was the answer, which i was expecting. 'We will see on the 2nd of next month' was supreme court's answer. (She otherwise hates my car n complains it gets more time than her.do u blame the car? Lolz n that too after 9 yrs of marriage n 3 kids......certainly not!!) zunny had only 1 thing on his mind how would i get my baby fixed. When would my stupid pay come. Why doesnt the qst of every month come so kwik..........

finally after the wait that seemed like years 1st of the month came. When zunny went to the ATM machine to get his pay you could see the sparkle in his eyes... He had only 1 thing in his mind ...when his baby would be fixed n all good again. In the meanwhile senior Chaudry sahab had arrived from England on his winter vacations after court orders from his supreme court aka My Mum.i took him along as he a former car quality inspector at Fords London plant has a bit of interest in cars n also would be a father son chit chat n a nice drive around Mangla Dam n enjoy the scenery. What a happy day it was going to be a lovely day...........
