We have done many comparisons of the three B-segment sedans of Pakistan: Honda City, Toyota Yaris, and Changan Alsvin. Which one is the best of the three sedans is a long debate. So we thought, why not take these three on the road and settle it with a drag race?
We called our dear friend and the famous YouTuber Raza Samo to drive his Changan Alsvin 1.3L M/T Comfort. We phoned another friend to get his Honda City 1.2L CVT for our PakWheels star Zill e Subhan. And for the third and final car, we had PakWheels Marketing Manager Faran Hussain with his Toyota Yaris 1.3L GLi M/T.
To be fair, we should have had the manual City variant. But we had to compromise on the CVT model because of unavailability issues.
The Winner On Paper
Before jumping straight to the race, our racers made some calculations to see who had the bigger chances to win. Here’s what they had on paper.
1.2L City weighs 1178 kg, has 1199cc displacement, 88 horsepower, and 110 Nm of torque.
1.3L Yaris weighs 1135 kg, 1329cc displacement, 98 horsepower, and 123 Nm of torque.
1.3L Alsvin weighs 1100 kg, 1370cc displacement, 99 horsepower, and 135 Nm of torque.
Alsvin was the potential winner on paper because it had the least weight and most power. But did the theorized champ hold its ground on the field? Let’s find out.
The Winner On Road
We had two rounds of the 400 meters drag race. All three cars entered the first round. The two that got to the finish line first and second entered the final game.Round 1
In the first round, Raza drove his Alsvin, Zille drove the City, and Faran drove his Yaris. City lost the race as soon as it started. On just a quarter-mile track, City looked like miles away from Yaris and Alsvin.
Between Yaris and Alsvin, Yaris won the first round with no sweat.
Round 2
The second time around, Zille switched to Alsvin to take on Faran’s Yaris. Alsvin started off strong in the second round until the driver couldn’t shift to the third gear smoothly. Yaris’ driver took over and finished the race on a bold note.
Yaris took the trophy home, all thanks to Faran’s swift driving.
Regardless of who won and who lost, wasn’t that refreshing and fun? How about more drag races? Which cars would you like to see face off? Let us know in the comments.
