Engine Head Facing - Charade Daddu

Dear All,

I have posted early for the same problem i.e. Car Heating. The mechanic is saying that the engine head needs to be faced as it is the main reason for engine heating. Though I have recently changed the head gas kit, cleaned up the radiator, and using coolant in it. The radiator fan is direct. The gauge dials goes above half mark in 2-3 gear. At high gears and evenings the gauge stays below half. Theres no mixing of oil in radiator coolant nor there are any bubbles while checked keeping engine started.

I have also got my AC checked through electrician, he is saying as the back pressure of compressor is 40 that needs to be around 70 so, i need a compressor change and it will reduce load on engine. The radiator fan thrust is also fine. I have consulted one more mechanic informed me that as I have got big corolla 88 radiator installed so its making car to heat up as heat is being dissipated from one end only. This appeared to be a bongi as baleno and other cars also have big radiators with fans on one end only.

Please note that AC cooling is fine but the blow is a bit low. Its Sanden compressor installed; i dont know why its causing engine to heat up given all the things are okay ...

Should i let mechanic to play with my car and open up its head for facing ??? Pls Help!!!

well technically if there are no bubbles in radiator with cap open at idling this means that ur gaskit is f9 and most probably head face too.
a friend had a similar problem with is cultus and all we did was that we replaced the radiator fan motor with a one from Honda with more speed/ air throw. the car is still going f9 for more than a year now and doesn't heat up now.
also u can get another fan installed at ur radiator along with the existing fan. then connect the new fan in a way that it kicks in only when u turn the a/c on maybe this will work.

Well the radiator you have is this local made with local jali or japanese?

2ndly If car is not decreasing water level or water in oil than i think head gaskit is fine.

I change my charade's radiator with 3 channel one and it stays well belove 25% all the time but that radiator is hard to find its a charade diesel 3 channel (3 nali) radiator.

Previously i had same 3 channel radiator it was working fine but thora kamzoor hogaya tha even though my mechanic said it can easily run for 2 seasons and with that radiator performace was same no heating at all i think my mechanic still got that some where in his workshop.

The guy who told you to get a smaller radiator is right.

Because half the hot water in the radiator is going back to the engine without being cooled down. Also, the AC condenser will be in front of the radiator, so it is delivering its heat to your radiator causing it to heat up.

I have a similar problem. I have a small radiator, but the AC condenser is from a larger car, covering the radiator, and the space where the original AC condenser is supposed to be.

So either get a smaller radiator, and another fan for the AC condenser, or install another fan in front of the empty area (with proper space between the fan and the condenser). Also the area in front of the radiator must be free. The AC condenser must be on the side of the radiator, not in front.

As for your argument that Baleno has fan on only one side, that car is Baleno, not Charade.

And DO NOT get your cylinder head faced.

I have got original japanese radiator. Even the radiator wala told me that I had very good radiator while cleaning it. There isnt any space left for 2nd fan. I asked electrician if theres any flat motor fan available which can fit into the tight space, but his answer was negative.
What is a 3-channel radiator? Pls explain. I dont know why the mechanic continously asking for a head face, he is a very experienced mechanic by the way....Is there something else associated to head face thing as well; other then bubbling and oil leakage issue???

Get an AC fan. These have a very small motor. they are installed in front of the radiator/condenser, not behind. A brand new one can cost around Rs.1500, but I'm not sure.

As for the three channel radiator, it has three lines instead of the one or two that original Charades come with. For your purpose, it will not do any good, as you said you have a good radiator.

If your car does not heat up in the winter during stop-and-go traffic, then it does not have any head problems.

The mechanic has to pay his son's tuiton fees, and is just looking to make some money.

I do see alot of Bongi's in the replies.

1) Bigger radiator will not heat up the engine. Bigger radiator=more surface area=more cooling.

the things to check here are

1) Radiator fan speed and volume of air passing. if it is not sufficent get a bigger fan. you did mention that the radiator was an 88 corolla radiator did you use your old fan or did you get a corolla one fitted.

2) Get your ac condensor steam washed a blocked ac condensor will redure airflow to the radiator and cause overheating.

Note : Alto ac condensor is right in front of the radiator covering it all so is the cuore's condensor. both have great ac's and both work fine.

The condensor is normally in front of car radiator; same is the case with my car. Whats the significance of getting a new AC fan; knowing its already causing the radiator to heat up.

This evening went to radiator guy and asked for for radiator exchange with original charade. He had coure radiator and asked me to pay Rs 1000 more and guarantee that the car wont heat up.
I was preplexed and confused knowing it was coure radiator.....dont know its properties and compatibilty with Charade CB-51 Engine.

Now, again here comes the eternal question once more; WHA TO DO??

with ac check if the car is building up pressure. any good mechanic can check inspecting the in and out pipes of radiator.
if its building alot of pressure, head facing and a thick gasket will cure it

Well its better not to go for Coure's radiator. When i was looking for radiator for my charade 86 a lot of people offered me these coure's radiator with gurantees and all lekin coure itself heats up a lot on a/c so how can that radiator designed for 850cc handle 1000cc?

Btw i got condensor like cultus its bigger than charade's original condensor but we fitted it in a way that its only covering 15% of the radiator.

If you were in Islamabad i could have given you my old 3 channel radiator, that radiator got no leaks and it was working perfectly fine only prob was it looks weak bcoz of age

Ek suggestion hai if you wanna get rid of heat problem forever only install 3 channel or what our mechanic call 3 nali radiator woh bhi original japanese jali wala the local jali one suks and its useless. People will try to convince you for 2 nali one lekin you have to find hard charade diesel's original 3 channel radiator after that car heat up wala masla bhool jao.

I got iit from peshawar for 3500 Rs. Its in perfect condition.

Btw cheap trick ek or bhi ho sakti hai why dun you install one fan infront of your car's radiator a high speed one.

Ya i agree with hash also try 2 or 3 different mechanic and ask them to check head gaskit.

BTW in my car 1 got 3 ways to controll fan hehe.

1 - Fan will start Auto matically on Half

2 - Fan will start when you turn on A/C with more power than normal.

3 - Fan can be turned on all the time with a switch inside the car.

4 - also got Thermostate valve installed made in france using it even in this heat.

I specifically mentioned that the car is a Charade, not an Alto, or Baleno, or a Santro.

My mechanic told me the same thing, and installed a 2D corolla's condenser in my Charade, and now I cannot use the AC, because it heats up the car. I have two fans, very fast ones. One for the radiator, and the second for the AC.

I must say it does not work.

to me your car seems fine ... you don't need head facing and you don't need to change your compressor.

you said cooling is fine. just the throw is the problem ... there would be a blower in the dashboard, get that cleaned and the ducts and your throw will improve.

at high gears your guage is below half which is normal ... it's hot these days so engine will get a bit hotter.
just use coolant if you're currently using water.

don't let the mechanics play with it.

Guys this is so confusing now owing to multiple point of views. To make it simple, pls tell me What are the symptoms of bad head face, other than Radiator Bubbling, Steam in Pipes and Oiling in radiator. Is there anything else which can point to bad head face?

A WARP HEAD COULD BE THE CAUSE OF OVER HEAT,IF UR MECHANIC SUGGESTED TO FACE IT THEN HAVE IT FACED.

@sami_vodoo - There isnt any thermostat valve in my car and the fan is direct.

@argtr65 - Tomorrow I have taken time from mechanic ..and he will open the head to check whether its require facing or not. Other aspect he informed me is if the head had been face for more than two times, then there will be less space for ignition in the head, so the over-heating issue wouldnt be resolved unless I change the Head with the Kabli one. But thats only a thought for the time being. This issue may also be resolved by using thicker version of head-gas kit. Let's see now ..

@Vaqas, man this is a clean set-up with I think Charade genuine radiator.... I got my Heat gauge checked yesterday and it was okay. The mechanic says when the car is over-heated, park it and check for pressure in radiator pipes, if its there then this surely is head issue, if not then your car is fine ...
But i think ive to wait till tomorrow..
