Engine Oil Confusion Alto 2019-20 PKDM

Hi Pakwheelers,

The debate on choosing the right engine oil is still on so I am creating this thread.

1. PakSuzuki recommending 10W40 otherwise warranty will be void.
2. Many people saying its same R06 engine which is used in JDM so right oil is 0W20.

Discuss this with Paksuzuki here is the response;

It is requested to share if someone have any further information.

I had also noticed in a thread that PakSuzuki used incorrect gear Oil in AGS manufactured during 2019.
Please share source of this information as I got below response from Suzuki.

I seriously want to understand how is an engine tuned/detuned to cater a higher viscosity oil... Need to improve my knowledge on this.... someone explain pls.

Further, arent the jdm same shape altos already running very well in Pakistan since 2016 i believe, assuming max 5w30 oil was being used... (Any owner of that jdm can cnfrm here pls?)

Agar itni hi engineering krskte hain PS walay so couldnt they simply add a brake booster in their beloved mehran?

They are importing the engines as it is from japan and then installing them in local alto. The same engine (non VVT version of r06a) is being used in manual version of jdm alto. Recommending a completely different and thick oil for alto means that PS has changed the design altogether that includes all the clearances and what not, which is next to impossible. So I think we should stick to jdm recommendation of 0w20

Suzuki 3S dealerships are pouring 10W40 in every car, similarly Toyota pour 20w50 in all new cars (sigh). My brother using 0w20 in his WagonR and its response, fuel economy everything improved a lot. This car is maintained by Sethi Motors. Warranty is intact, I am not sure why they are would say that warranty is void unless that stealership only have 10w40 oil available.

I personally think its a blunder to use 10w40 in a VVT 660 cc engine Unless PS have changed that engine al together for Pakistani market.

Here at Rawalpindi Sowan Suzuki Central, they recommend 10-40 but recently they stocked lighter weight oil which they Super Synthetic or something. In extended warranty they only offer 10-40 as its cost is included in warranty.

And temperature range of 0W-20 is wide enough that climate of Pakistan is not a concern.

An email to Suzuki Japan with CC to Pak Suzki might be more helpful.

In email from PS they pointed out Pak atmosphere to justify 10W40 oil, but on other hand they highly recommend 0w20 for Wagon R & Cultus.

Yeah, don't know why dealership in fact you used correct term stealerships wants to destroy our hard earned money by pouring incorrect oil in brand new cars.

This is the instruction memo from PS to its dealerships, 0W20 is highly recommended, for Cultus Wagon R & even for Swift in Pak atmosphere.

One more thing I had noticed while getting an oil change that the dealership doesn't have any measure to pour the exact amount of oil in the engine.

this happened to me as well,I went to change at 1000 KM , He shook the Gallon and then looked at me for the pride that he knew without any measuring instrument the left over , and when the Guy cleaned the Funnel or as we call it PEEK for oil with the dirtiest cloth available that was worth a snap , but .....

Exactly the opposite of your argument. If they are offering the 0W20 what is the benefit to them not to use 0w20 in Alto. On paper the oil is more expensive and with the term stealerships they should be using the same for Alto aswell.

I am also using 0W20 in my WagonR but not in the Alto.

About the oil measurement part I guess for that you need a meter like at the petrol pump. Other wise you can never be sure how much oil goes in. Any sane persons suggests to park the car on level floor and check the oil next day for oil level.

Do you know that then engine in pkdm alto, r06a, is being manufactured and imported from japan? Current automotive industry laws allow manufacturers to import duty free parts for upto 3 years after which they have to start local manufacturing. The reason for strict recommendation of 10w40 by paksuzuki for new alto could be simple lack of knowledge about the new engine. R series is the latest technology from suzuki, newer than any of their other engine series. PS engineers must be confusing it with f10a engine of old alto (RA410) hence the strict 10w40 recommendation. Such a thick oil can literally destroy the new r06a engine while operating on high temperatures in long run. It is just too thick to properly flow through the engine`s tighter tolerances.

Empirical evidence also suggests that use of 0w20 has resulted in decreased engine noise especially in low rpm band and improved acceleration and fuel economy. I believe that PS will start recommending 0w20 for new alto after they have collected enough data on it and also once they start its local production

I am really sorry. You have to give me all of this information in every thread and I still dont agree with you.

The duty free import of parts is for new entrants not Suzuki, toyota, honda.

Il check about the r06a but all other engines are assembled in Pakistan. All cars in Suzuki's line up ( alto, cultus, wagonR, Swift are using relatively new technology now.

Cultus and Wagonrs k10B is Indonesian sourced, Altos most parts are Japanese but the major car is localized now.

And suzuki engineers aren't Sarak chaap, they definitely know better. If nothing the only reason to use 10W40 in Alto is cost saving so people think the maintenance isnt costing to much more then the mehran.

But last prices for mehrans were 9 lacks and Alto now costs 16 lacks.

I also agree to the fact Suzuki used wrong transmission oil, and they have rectified it.

But since Suzuki is offering 0W20 for other vehicles and not using it for Alto doesn't makes sense. They are also offering it for the 10 year old Swift aswell.

WagonRs owner manual on the last page specially mentions use of 0W20, even when paksuzuki wasn't offering this oil.

you dont have to agree with me, just see the engine code under the hood of your alto. Mine doesnt start with a "P", an indication that whole engine was imported as is. I have a pkdm wagonR as well, its engine code starts with a "P" which means that it was locally manufactured/assembled. This was further corroborated from a few inside sources as well.

Oh and btw, suzuki,toyota and honda are allowed duty free imports for upto 3 years for any new launched vehicle. You can check it from other sources as well

Very intresting debate with no end...
As per my understanding. PS modified it to local environment. It needs 90RoN petrol,not high octane because of less compression ratio. While same alto with turbo need hi octane.
We have no data about crank shaft beagan and piston space for engine oil of both japanese and pkdm alto engine. The oil is selected on basis of this space or tolerance.
Local environment temp is also imp. In japan average temp never cross 20 c. So 0w20 is suitable for there. But in pak. Temp can rise to 50c in summer. So. 10w40 is consider good for this area. As 10w shows it can be good even at -10c. And we have not such low temp in plain areas.
If 10w40 damage car engine. Then it will also damage company image. As more claims will be filed

Petrol station meter is not required but a simple measurement jar can be helpful.

you are right that major factor that decides the oil recommendation is the engine tolerances. Ambient temperature doesnt matter much since engine operates on much higher optimum temperature with some cushion for further heating. 0w20 is already being recommended for wagonR, cultus, swift and also the honda civic 1.5 turbo in our hot climate

ur right , they simply do not care about the quantity of oil being put in the engine , this happened with me two times in a row now , i got my oil changed and checked it today it was well above the second mark ,now i don’t know what to do , no one has time for frequent trips to their dealerships
