Engine Oil for Old Cars

the toyota 5K OHV engine had hydraulic lifters, the 1,2,3,4 and 7K engines had the solid ones. Those engines take caltex delo or havoline motor oil without problem.

Make sure the engine gets nice n hot (install T stat) and that the PCV valve and breather are in good shape. Its a very good and robust engine.

thanks for correction. it has very good low end torgue for routine city drive, however will look into thermostat and pcv because car was sitting for nearly a year, by the way currently using this:

A lower viscosity on the hot side is recommended and genuine toyota oil filter because in this engine the filter mounts upside down. You need a good filter to prevent drain back.

genuine filters are very hard to find now a days, even reputed spare part shops are selling fake products in original packings, next oil change is expected in 2 weeks time( according to my calculations) i will cut the filter and post pictures here.

I have 92 accord with JDM 2000 Accord Engine. Engine is in good nick thanks to Allah. I was wondering what oil is best for it. Searching thread was helpful but they were for new cars xli/gli etc. I have questions

1. Use Mineral Oil if yes which company
2. Use Synthetic Oil and which grade
3. Is it better to have shorter drainage periods or longer periods with synthetic oils.......
4. Please suggest best Oil Company.... heard shell ultra is best according to @Xulfiqar https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/oil-fuel-fluids-filters/227955-zic-xq-vs-kixx-pao-2#post4227287
Personally i am biased towards Synthetic Oil. Someone said in Pakistan there is alot of dusts so its better you drain your oil frequently. Dont know how legitimate is this.

I would recommend Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 (UK) or Shell Helix HX7-E 5W-40 whichever is easily available at your place for Honda F series aluminum block engine.

For Auto Transmission Honda DW-1 or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is best.

I am still using Delo Gold Ultra in 89 Accord A16A1 engine and M/T as per Xulfiqar bhai advice and is running like a champ for past 8-9 years.

Now I am thinking to replace with Mobil Delo MX ESP Formula.

yours and mine transmission is not DW-1 they are Dextron II as II is no more so its Dextron-III

the new models of corolla has plastic holders in which the oil filter is fixed.
don't know what its called in english, but our oil changing boy told me so.
before that, this holder was made by metal, but now corolla using plastic material and now it has to be very much careful when undo the filter.

That is called cartridge style filter, is easy to break it if you are trying to wrestle with it, Its pretty simple to take out too, Use a rubber strap and a lever to undo it or buy the proper fluted tool.

I had a few of these tools are these filters are common on european engines.

2380 for 4 liter. ATF is 500/liter. Honda was 1100 something per liter and Meguin ATF was 1000/liter

you need to buy a metal saw from the hardware store.

Yes. Our oil change guy also put a soft hand on it while undoing it.
But I think its weird. It has to be of metal at-lest for more safety.
