Brother,Use Caltex Havoline Fully Synthetic 5W-40W, and who told to change the oil on 1000kms after a long travel?Change oil on every 6000km's/6 months.whichever comes first.

10w30 grade should suffice regradless its driven on motorways or intra city

I tend to agree. 10W30 or 10W40 but as @fastian04 mentioned, 5W30 is the recommended one for these engines

5w30 is the perfect decision, you can use any brand.

Some petrol pumps, like the total pump near LDA Office Johar town keep barrels of engine oil. You will get it roughly 500rs cheaper than the oil stores if you buy from their barrel.

So the 5w30 will not cost you too much

@margallar and all, thanks a lot. Please also shed some light on the point, I have ready at Pakwheels forums and some expert mentioned this that whatever is the grade o the oil, don't pour in synthetic oil in the old engines as synthetic oil is known for engine cleansing and when that happens, older engines tend to leak out so always use semi-synthetic / multi grade oil in the older engines. Is that true?

that is a wrong concept, you have nothing to worry about. Engines are made of moving METAL parts, the rubber seals around any shaft or at joints are not that weak that they give up when you switch to a better oil.

comes in both choices, some sell semi synthetic and some sell synthetic

Shell 5w30 is semi synthetic, and total is fully synthetic, both are great

Advise please. I have a 2004 exi prosmatec. Engine had leakage. Was using Total 5w30. Had seals replaced and now using 10W40. Leakage has come again. I'm not going these days to have the leakage inspected bec of Covid-19.
Problem being, shuru main I initially had oil changed, but due to leakage, i couldn't see if car was consuming oil, or was it reducing because of the leakage. There was no smoke from the exhaust, and no head gasket leak. Should I shift back to 5w30? I fear if i do, the leakage will worsen up bec of thin oil. I remember I had to top up 3 liters of oil and that was becoming expensive for me.

continue with 10w40, not because 5w30 will worsen the leak (difference will be marginal , if any)

but 5w30 will be expensive compared to 10w40. Switch to 5w30 after fixing the leak

I poured synthetic oil in my 2010 Corolla Altis and after running 200 km in city got "low oil pressure" light.

The reason was huge amount of sludge accumulation on strainer of engine oil sump. Needed to clean it up and here we go. It happened twice once at 90K and another time at 120K oil change. Since then I'm using non synthetic oil without problems. I would advise not to use synthetic if you havent used it earlier.

Both times Toyota guys changed the oil without asking which oil I want or use earlier.

brother in my opinion you should have gone for a engine flush rather than moving back to non synthetic
that sludge will kill your engine sooner or later better to take care of it one time
pour any cheap 300rs/liter oil 3.5 liter in your car and a bottle of liqui moly engine flush
run it on idle for 10 mins and drain the oil also remove the oil pan and clean the strainer and then pour fresh synthetic oil
you will feel car running alot better

I am really thankful for your concern. I did pour the Toyota Engine Flush Additive and changed the oil after getting that warning second time. Also sump and strainers were also cleaned.

Present mileage is 136K. I will surely repeat the process as per your directions at 140K service.

In my view, synthetic oil removed all the sludge and accumulated it in the sump. I was just skeptical, if I use synthetic oil again, it is going to clog that drain too.

For the first time, I was rightly guided by my Mechanic for the first time after Toyota guys planned to open up the engine and qouted a long list of things to do for removing low oil pressure warning including oil pump change. But I didn't believe them and was sure that a Toyota Engine run with lot of care would not breakdown it's parts after only running 80Ks.

Second time, I just went to a roadside mechanic and told him to remove the sump and clean the strainer. Car was up in no time.

I would run a flush again surely.

@babaralinawab! How about putting synthetic oil before one oil change and then flushing before next change?
