I would like Mr Goodman to meet some hardcore Jeep users - not the nancies who wash them and want to look pretty, but hardcore 4x4 difflock users, lets see after a climb on umm lets say a 30 incline with a 4.0 straight 6 AMC engine - he should tell us the temperature of the engine by feeling it.

If you are not a current or previous owner of a mehroo then how do you know that "your car is overheating by the amount of heat you feel on your face when you open the hood?" I thought this maneuver is required only in mehroos since temp gauges don't work most of the times in mehroos only.

Then you probably previously have driven a bolan or carry.

well i own a khyber carby, its my baby as i learned driving on it, it serves as once in a week car so it has done only 52000 km till date. its temp needle works as a charm and stays at 1/4 no matter how cold or hot the weather is, and goes to half if i use a/c a/c in really hot days. and i agree its not the most accurate method. so peace.

What they mean to say is, do it in a professional way-
Just the way a Doctor uses a thermometer to check your fever. He doesn't shove his hand in your mouth or his finger up your backside does he?
If reading engine/engine oil temp. through OBD-II port is possible, why not try that to be more accurate?

In other words, lets say the imported oils has good Thermal Stabilities as compared with local oils.
Hope this statement will work better than bonnet test. (smile).

hmm - irrelevant words.... in your world is a bobbin called a "phirkee"?.. If you want to discuss in the uneducated terms that pakistani mechanics use - then thats OK too, Im versed in them too, unfortunately I also have a few degrees in education, I think they should be considered useless.

anyway a test means that it is universal and has units of measure that are defined as constants.

now lets take your test on a suzuki mehran and feel the bonnet after driving at a speed of 20 km/h for 2 hours and then stopping in Sibbi in the middle of July and testing the heat. It may burn you.

Lets do that on a mercedes with 3.2 litre or 4.3 litre engine, the bonnet will be very cool...... the german engine runs hotter (normally at 90C) all the time and has panels under the car - so hot air doesnt exhaust quick. Why would it be cool?

Theres a thick layer of insulation on the bonnet. <--- any hint

Similarly lets take a person who has diabetes and usually has numb fingers because he binges on "broast" - he wont feel a thing as his fingers are numb. Or lets take both cars to Abbotabad in December and do the test. Any ideas what will happen?

We don't have German cars here in Pak.
So comparing Mehran with German car is not good idea to explain the phenomena.
As in my other post I said, ok, instead of bonnet test, lets call that "Imported Oils" has good thermal stabilities as compared with local oils.

Go for VALVOLINE 15W40 CI4 with mileage of 5000 KMs or KIXX D1 CI4 mileage of 5000 KMs.

Usman, i like your observations & sincerely appreciate it.
We all have different points of observations to the common phenomenon even.
I can further elaborate it with following quotes which I like

Just ignore what everyone says here. I know people feel rather easy to taunt rather than even trying to observe it. Speaking / writing is rather easier than being practical.

If a car is normally driven, when stop and open the bonnet and yes can feel a certain (lets call it standard) amount of heat.
But if car is bit over driven, using bad engine oil, running short water in radiator, etc. etc. then certainly the amount of heat will be more when we will open the bonnet. I fully agree with this and in anycase appreciate your point of observation.

Regardless of the weather (either in summer or winter), your observation is true.
