Dear All,
One of my Frnd wants to swap an engine in Datsun 120y type B310, which petrol RWD engine will be best, Produces good power and can drift the car easily.

you donot need a huge engine to drift.

if you know a little about car setup you should just change the tyre pressure of your front and rear tyres to change their grid levels.

And also, its a Front Engine Rear Drive GT. It should drift or squat easy.

and to be honest, I would consider it a sin to change the engine of the thing.

Nothing gives you the rumble for the money like the 120y

FULL STOP

Get some Mobil1 in, some WD40 here and there.

Ultra fat tyres, and chrome paint the front grill.

Get your car painted Orange, Purple or Black and get some stripes on. You donot need anything else.

u can put in a 4afe engine, and then proceed to modify it.

unfortunately most of the engines which are high horsepower engines are either not available or their spare parts are hard to find

look through the topics already discussed, u will find a LOT of discussions about this very topic. not necessarily 120Y...

most of the engines u can swap in with some time and effort but the newer engines are efi and its a pain to get those working properly.. if u are willing to stick with the project and go through with it then all the luck to you.

do u have any pic of any cutomized 120y?? i think any engine which has around 100+ bhp can make it drift a lil which will b more than enough. We have this car since 1980, its still in running condition, on partol, need aloot of denting paining n u know the mrkt price which will not be more than u can say like Rs.35000/-. so just thought of key we shud do sumthing with this thing. So guys plz help me out here..

as i said, use a toyota engine. a 7afe ( 1.8 litre ) block with a 4afe ( 1.6 litre ) head. u will get good horsepower as well as torque and it will be cheap to run as well.

if u are not going to sell it then do the mechanical aspects 1st and build it up before doing the shashkay.

have a 77 corolla with this engine...u will need nearly 140bhp engine for drifting...and this engine produces around 185 bhp which is perfect for drifting and drag racing..

I am planning to buy this car n start working on it my self, would you please tell me how i can convert 4afe to RWD? and wat abt the avaiability of 7afe parts? 4afe parts are easily available. also suggest me which car's differential i should use.

you will need a rear wheel gearbox with diff... i havent had a rwd car so i have no idea, wait for a bit and someone with more knowledge will come along and tell you probrably palaykhan because a friend of his has a rwd rolla.
7afe parts are the same as 4afe, more or less. u can mix and match parts but u need to know what to do before you start doing anything.
