Exchange of Corolla-86 with Corolla 2.0D

I want to exchange my corolla 86, registered 1997, 1300cc petrol, CNG fitted. 174,000 km running. original white color, in good condition, fully documented.

Need corolla 2.0D in good condition.

I want to make a tour of karakoram Highway.
So petrol..... and CNG will not be available there.
And power of CNG may not help car to climb the karakoram Highway.

• bigger cng cars are quite powerful. they can go to hilly earas easily. thou you have to refill again and again and no cng station in those areas (i used daewoo on cng )

• please think about going diesel because thou diesel is powerful but it requires lots of care. not as durable as petrol engine (also had diesel converted corolla)

• read an article comparing diesel and petrol engines in an south african web site " 4xforum " . (you'll have to do little searching)

clarification about duability of diesel engine:

need regular oil filter change. watch for temperature. any negligence can lead to weak engine or siezed engine and repair is costly compared to petrol engine.

if your 86 crollas engine is ok after 174000 km. then there is no match of it. cng is not at all bad for climing roads. it is available till Mansehra. after that you will have to go onward on petrol if you go on your 86. by the way 2.0D is not good option for climing roads. it is like this in mountanous areas. and it suck a lot of fuel. you will not find a diesal engine below 3500cc in any vehicle in those areas.

U both have cleared my confusion. Now I shall prefer petrol/CNG.

Its engine is in good condition it gallops 1000km in one trip without any major stop over.

How u compare ur diesel converted corolla with daewoo on CNG in terms of performance on hilly areas and plain areas?

The diesel perform well in hilly area cuz it has power under low rpm so at high gear you can clime as compare to petrol

Brother never go for petrol or CNG if you have to drive the car in hilly area or on uneven road (which are common on our highway)

Diesel Corolla is the best option if you have to drive the car in hilly area or on highways.

i converted my corolla 82 to diesel when the cost of diesel was about 6 rs. very economical then. but my advise to all is never ever to do conversion or go for converted car untill you have solid reasons. one of hte problems is that diesel engine is heavy and due to our bad roads it has a drastic effects on the suspensions of the car. so car tyres rearly maintain their allignment

good diesel car is no doubt good in hilly areas as it is powerful. and another of my good experience is that i usully doesnt stop in rains as it has got no plugs. but as i keep on saying you have to respect the engine. change gear at proper time (did you read article i talked about- i think its title is problem with turbo diesel engines)

i have an excellent experience with daewoo. its got big engine and good on cng. on my way to my village which is a bad mountainous road, it can go about 100-130 km. then i use petrol as no cng there.

bottom line is *it all depends upon condition of the car and how well its been taken care of.

*diesel is getting expensive day by day
*sound of diesel engine is annoying to some
*maintainance cost of petrol engine is less
*if you are a person who gets up in morning and kick start engine with out looking at oil water etc then diesel is not for you.(in my openion)

Petrol is available all over Karakoram highway. I did the trip in my Khyber in 1995.
