I had a lot of questions from friends and fellow Pakwheelers about Taglon, so decided to get back to IMC and got this reply just now.
I have also written to ExxonMobil Global and if I recieved any reply will share here:
Dear Mr. Gilani,
Thank you for your patience. I would like to respond your queries one by one:
- I was surprised to see ExxonMobil logo in the document. If Taglon is blended by ExxonMobil then why there is no mention of it on the Taglon bottles? Also there is no mention of ExxonMobil on your website.
• ExxonMobil and Toyota Motor Company globally collaborate in development of engine oil & other chemicals. Based on corporate strategy mutually agreed between both companies branding decisions are taken. Your valuable feedback will be forwarded to decision makers in region.
If ExxonMobil logo is printed on the labels and also mentioned on the website it is going to evoke confidence among customers. Many people at various automobile forums are riling Taglon as an inferior products sourced by Indus Motor Company somewhere from Taiwan. Mention of Exxon Mobile will kill all these badmouthing swirling around Taglon.
• We highly value your opinion and will suggest same to our principles.
- The document says that TGMO (Toyota Genuine Motor Oil) is synthetic while Taglon pack says it is fully synthetic. Are you sure the sheet which you have sent me is for Taglon as it does not mention the word Taglon anywhere?
• Taglon is marketing name used by IMCL in Pakistan. Globally this product is TGMO SN 5W-50 Synthetic Engine Oil.
- Taglon box back label says it is blended in Taiwan, but your website says it is from Japan? Why this discrepancy and it is causing a lots of doubts about Taglon.
• (As mentioned above its been blended in ExxonMobil blending plant located in Taiwan therefore the blending location had to be mentioned on label for customer information / on website Japan is mentioned as al the Lube Technology requirements and technology transfers are only made up by TMC Toyota Motor Company Japan)
- A lot of experts wonder that why Toyota has not offered 5w-30 or 0w-20 range mobil oils for Altis as these are recommended the world over? Why 5-w-50 viscosity has been chosen?
• (Continuous regional R & D programs are conducted by Exxon Mobil & TMC after which the Technology Transfers are made on regional levels, to cater the best lube for automobile, API SN & viscosity 5w-50 has a maximum demand due to technical requirements in Pakistan / Nonetheless currently we are procuring 0W-20 from Japan which is readily available at our dealership’s and sooner IMC will be launching SN-5W-30 hopefully within this year)
5- Is there any chance that the technical sheet that you sent me is not for Taglon, but some other TGMO marketed in other countries?
• (Through Exxon Mobil SN 5w-50 is been supplied to many other countries in Toyota one of which is Pakistan sheet shared with you completely explains the details about SN 5W-50)
In case of any feedback please feel free to contact me again.
