I respectfully disagree and stand by my contention that the nuts for the speaker mounting bolts are captive by design in this car. All it needs is the proper offset screwdriver or a shallow socket on a flex-drive.

I'm with Xulfiqar, we have a Gli 2009 as well, you can open them from the trunk easily.

weird - of all factory speakers I have encountered in cars with sloping rear screens have nuts on the bottom that can be removed - once undone - you can push the speaker out - I doubt a car designed by japanese people working on the Kaizen principle would design something that requires a hit and miss tool. The only item that will work is a "gear wrench" aka ratcheting spanner.

As I thought, in the 2009-onwards Corolla, the stock mounting bolts go in from the top, and have captive nuts at the bottom that are sandwiched between layers of the rear parcel shelf and bulkhead, and thus are NOT accessible from the bottom:

(Also note the grey bitumastic compound on the bolt shaft used to prevent loosening over time due to vibrations.)

But what is the big deal? As long as a proper offset tool is used, these speakers are just as easy to remove in my opinion.

Agreed. Toyota's engineering has taken a distinct slide downwards since 2000 and now is only marginally better in certain areas than other options.

dear its not a matter of kanjoosii. i think a good thread due to which we are awaring of different ideas. like xulifqar bhaai told about double nut technique. i thin brain stormings and positive discussion come up with new ideas and solutions rather a small or large issue. and the satisfaction by DYI you get is pricless.

swiss knife has a small screw driver which has a short arm.

DUde howd u remove the seat and that plastic cover...do kindly elaborate that with pictures if you can....and as for all the friends over here are saying youll need that small screwdriver which is what the audio system guy used when he installed speakers in my ride way back.
