I wouldn't say its a 5 year job but at least a 1 to 2 year job for the Caddy. The Merc can be done in about 6 months as there are tons of parts cars avaialble here which can be used as donors. However word is that it is desired that both cars be restored and completed by December this year! If pigs flew maybe. The VCCCP will not be funding the restoration of these cars but will take on the work, labour and supervision funded by other sources which have been supposedly assured.

I say restoration of these cars would be well worth the effort and time. This is our country's heritage on wheels. regardless of what our leaders have been doing with the country we shall do our bit instead of towing their lead. One small step maybe but it will make a difference. To us car buffs atleast if not to others. Let people say whatever, the cars shall be restored and preserved for our future generations to see. I 'll be personally involved with the restoration of these cars and let me say here that personally I have no desire for these cars. I would love to see the Cadillac be part of the Mohatta Palace once again.

take a chill pill young man. What you said was correct and something to think about. It's just that it is easier to say all that when one is outside Pakistan. For those who go thru the various stages of grinds everyday our hobby brings that little bit of relief without which we would become grouchy farts. I honestly feel enough said about how Fatima Jinnah's cars are ruined and blah! blah! lets look forward and hope that the cars come back to life regardless of who owned them...specially the Cadillac.

It's all about wheels.In Madras they have an autorickshaw rally every year and people from all over the world participate in it.They celebrate even this "lowly" people carrier and exalt it a bit.Why not the two old gals in the pic above?.They deserve a makeover and for motorheads it will always be a labor of love regardless of who owned them.

hehe..mohsin uncle...like i said...im not having a go at anyone and im not saying that one shouldnt restore them..i am all for preserving the heritage of the country....i was just raising a point for those few who have no idea what the country went through and stuff and just think of the physical possessions of the leaders rather than what they really thought u know...this does NOT include anyone or any person associated with the VCCCP and its efforts to get these cars into a decent state..

hahaa..and believe me i know what its like for the vcccp back home sir...after all ive lived there all my life.ive grown up amongst it all havnt i :P....and whatever free time i get off from here i race on back home :P...and ive been through some of the daily grinds as well..trying to have some work done on my car..however minimal and insignificant it might be.....and although we've all heard it before and ill say it again infront of everyone..you are probably one of the only few if not the ONLY one in the country who has such passion for classics and have proven that time and time again..mashAllah..I for one have complete faith in the fact that if the vcccp takes these cars under its wing, under your supervision...they will be restored with the utmost care and precision imaginable inshAllah....

once again..lol..JUST to CLARIFY.. i wasnt saying anything determental towards anyone or any body interested in restoring the cars..it was just an opinion which i tried substantiated with a bit of patriotic "re-kindlement"..so to speak

What you wrote was good and thought provoking. If we as a nation had done all those things that you wrote we would have been a different nation altogether. Thanks for your kind words. I am happy that young blood is coming into the car scene and things maashallah look good for VCCCP. Soon you all will need to take over the reigns of the club and take it to different levels. Aaaaah!

That pic of the caddy dated 1987 brings me to a little scrap book of mine still with me.....

Used to paste pictures of any old cars in it from newspapers,mags etc. This very picture, although of a very small size was published in Dawns Magazine section if my memory serves right. It was an article on the Mohatta Palace.

I 'd like to keep mum about till the car is out of there. I would like Shell or Caltex or perhaps PSO sponsor the restoration and make a glass house kind of a garage where this car could be restored and people could come and see the progress. It will be club's responsibility to restore the car. I have owned a 1956 Cadillac 'Sedan de Ville', restored a 1953 Cadillac Convertible ground up for a friend and also worked on a 1955 Cadillac Eldorado Bearitz Convertible which was originally owned by Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah. I know exactly where to find parts for the car and have already identified a donor car for parts. So Inshallah it 'll be in safe hands. Other VCCCP members also have immense experience in restoring cars and they 'll be there to put in their bit.

haha...mohsin uncle..a symbiote is a quite literally an organism that bonds with its host and makes itself a permanent part of its structure and enhances its principal attributes..i came up with that when i was a little kid...14 or 15..from my love of comic books and spiderman...i collect comics as well...i have more than 2000 to my name mashAllah..amongst which i also own some limited edition runs and limited prints.....haha..
