Finaly 5AFE Swapped in EE90

and i end up saving lots of money and hassles you get after paid project car is somewhat my 1st experience who taught me quiet much ...... i have been through 4 swaps in last 3 4 years so got quiet some experience with these stuff...

well yeah im in a learning phase too...its all prep for a few dream projects for which il pitch in all the $$$ n effort i can muster!

im just hoping my car runs better tomorrow....it did idle proper at 800-900rpm while fully hot after tht TB serivce. There wasnt much solid gunk in there. But i oiled the iscv, washed everything with petrol; the TPS seemed to be in the wrong position - such that the ecu was not been getting idle-on signal even when throttle was fully closed...it was thinking throttle is a bit open and was closing the iscv valve completely. Maybe thats why the 500rpm idling on hot!

and how does that work out?

its supposed to give specific volts at specific %age of throttle opening right? how much is good?

i just retarded its position as much as i could, just like you retard timing on a distro. i feel the spring mechanism inside the tps is still a bit worked up even at closed throttle. but throttle response has gotten quite better. Kal hi pata chalega when i go for highway drive...

It Got readigs for like zero throttle and WOT.....!!
tells ecu that how much throttle is pressed...!!

Its Like Resistance check b/w VTA and E2
it should be 0.3-0.5 K Ohms on zero throttle range is (0.3-6.3KOhm)
and around 3.85-4 K ohm on fully open..Wide throttle (100%) range is (1.5-11.5k Ohm)
4 wire TPS i am talking about....!!
your can be different.........just gave it a try.....when engine is shutt of.....
remove grip and try it....!

the TPS has two sensors - one is an idle position switch - that tells the ECU that the driver has left the throttle and the plate is in idle position - (the ecu cuts fuelling on the overrun till it comes to the 'recovery' point to reintroduce fuelling)

the Idle switch (PIN IDL in ecu) should show some resistance till about 15% throttle then go off - once you set it this way - the VTA (variable throttle angle) output would be in correct specification automatically

why dont you guys look at the Z gen engines for your corolla - they fit perfectly and are more torquey and fuel effecient than the A series - however rebuilding them is useless in Pakistan

Main issue with Z Gen is they are hard to find, Expensive, and as you said most people here cant do a proper rebuild job.

I have seen people removing Z gen here and putting A series in:p

Even though my idle is better now but i feel under load the idle control valve is dead only time i felt it kicked in was when my car was stallin at 500 RPM than you can feel its kicking in to save engine from turnin of.

All other times when you put on light or use power steering/head lights or put any kind of load rpm drops from 900 to 700 is this normal?

Sorry guys i tried to find a fused wire but in the end couldent un tie the fuse box and wiring so i thought lets just not mess too much with this and save time

I bought this small fuse box with two fuses for ECU.

they're way too expensive. like the guy was asking 180k for 1zz (taken from premio) and 130k for 1nz....ideally i wanted a 1nz but then that was too expensive.

rpm still falling to 500 sometimes

one thing i noted today is that as long as wheels are in motion, neutral gear, idle rpm stays b/w 700-900rpms. but as soon as vehicle come to a halt that rpm falls to 500....whyyyyyyyy??? tps error?

yaar A Series Are more convenient and easy to find stuff and one solid motors......!!!
Z-gens are expensive.......hard find.....and quiet more complicated compared to these A series......!
on CNG....both perform almost with 19-20 difference...
Z-Gens are surely better on gasoline...but who needs those on gasoline

make Sure there's no vacuum leak........!! i suspect something is definitely wrong there.....!! Always remember map sensor engines are quiet sensitive on vacuum side.....

I located one vacum leak few days ago. The vacume pipe going to throttle body had one pipe connected which was left vacant. when the idle control valve comes in operation you can hear vacum leak from that left pipe.

Fuel Filter to be installed. I kno not a very good one but this temp As soon as i get enough time i will get the proper toyota one fixed

my TPS sensor is weird!

if i aim for even a 0.6volts reading at VTA at fully closed throttle, i also get battery voltage at IDL (which should be zero at closed throttle). Weird haina?

so iv set it to 0.5volts @ VTA @closed throttle, at this therez zero volts at IDL.

it does seem to idle at 900rpm for now...proper test hoga wen i drive it again tomorrow....fingers crossed again!!

there were lots n lots of Z gen motors in shoba peshawar. but the pathans wouldnt budge from their exorbitant prices. And who can forget their monotonous suggestions: "sola vaal injun dalo"
