What Problems? a lot of these problems are my own created ones hehe Bcoz i wanted the things to be just like a stock car with 5A engine.
Its been some months i have not faced a single problem just turn the key. Even its been 3 months i have not added one drop of water in my car and water level everything else at same level.
You asked about mechanic, You have got two options. One you buy the engine from the Pathan ask him for the swap this will be cheaper as this will include wiring and mechanical work but this swap will have probs.
the mechanics doin these swaps are experianced but they will not care to keep things how it should be> i mean even when install fuel pump they will just hook it up without caring about its position. Even they dun care if they have not installed fuel filter (That is a must for EFI Cars).
Than comes the most important electrition work, Now if you are lucky and also keep an eye on engine wiring you might end up like me with an engine with uncut wiring and if the pathan electritions are in mood they might not cut throw it and let it work the way it is. Thats what happend in my case all my sensors are hooked up.
Incase you end up with an engine with wiring not complete than they will install only the sensors needed to start the engine everything else will be left.
So this is the option you have if you ask the engine guy to swap the engine.
If you chose your own mechanic than the s (Which i didnt to save some money) than a good mechanic like one i got will take around 4 to 5 thousand for swap and electrition will take 5000 Rs. I can suggest you my mechanic but he is much better than most mechnics i have seen in market. But he is bit expensive. If you chose this method engine seller will give you discount of 6000R as they pay 3000 to mechanic and same to electrition.
Most important part is wiring as Xulfiqar bhai said, But sadly you will not find any electrition here who will do proper wiring with proper relays so one option is to keep it running they way they setup or like me get it fixed properly with fuses and relays.
This thread can be very useful for any one swapping toyota engines go throw it.
Few things you must make sure is they install fuel pump properly into the tank. Ask em to get you toyota XLI Fuel pump they call it choti niple wala pump :p.
Ask em to install Fuel filter.
Check clutch pressure plate, Change the Clutch bearing.
90% of these engine got leaking water pump issues. So properly check water pump area if there are signs of any water marks get the water pump changed.
Check timing belt and its better you replace it a long with timing bearing.
Insist on all sensors hooked up. Get manual ECU of 5AFE they will give you 4AFE or Auto ECU and tell you its the same and works but you must push for its own 5AFE ECU and its better to get manual Tranny ECU.
the inner side of axels comes with engine ( I think they all em cut goda)so you must get them from the engine guy.
The timing side mount is different in 5A if you are swapping in ee90, they will install a plate to join em togather but i didnt like this plate thingie as the engine was never balanced with vibrations only i can feel lol so i got the old mount removed from my dentor got 99 corolla mount of 4AFE got it bolted to the side and engine is very balanced with no vibrations at all. Some said why you removed the old mount as it created a mess around the mount area by dentor's torch but issue is if i left that mount that its a very very hard job to get the water pump replaced of this engine and you have to jack the engine and do all kind of things to get it out so thts why i removed it.
These engines comes with 134 a/c compressors but few of them also comes with R12 ones so check from your a/c guy which one you are using. You can also keep using your old compressor if you think its working fine.
Make sure you have a good radiator to support this engine.
I had a an issues with power steering fluid leakage as the idiot swap mechanic did not install thing they call T that is attached to this engines power pump and the pipe is of 99 corolla (4afe one)that needs to be installed. This pipe is like a rectangle comes out of pump goes upto the right side steering mount than turns into the power steering rack you must get this pipe and T. They might join the pipe with normal clamps and all but this can leak like in my case.
BTW installing the fuel pump into this tank of ee90 is not easy me and my mechanic opened this tank atleast 4 times. Now its at perfect position even with 3 L of petrol pump works with no issues.
thats what I experienced during the swap. Chose the cleanest engine possible, I will recommend Asghar khan for engines he is not cheat like others.
BTW I am thinking of swapping 7A into my car next year with maybe an Auto tranny :p.
The price of this engine is same like 5A and similar fuel economy. But its a 1800CC engine gives outstanding low end torque. So if you are looking for engine at least 50% better than ur 2E go for 5AFE, If you need more power go for 7A.
