Graphite oil in transmission

Hello all. First time posting here, hope its the right place to post the question.

I bought a swift 2016 used recently, had the clutch changes and its gear oil was changed for the first time at 75k km. The gearbox makes a whining sound while driving and it increases with speed. Gear changes are still not smooth but for the sound my mechanic said its because the oil was changed very late. Now he recommends putting Abro Graphite Oil in the transmission so the damage can be controlled and sound can be minimized.

I've never heard of any such practice so asking if it would be fine to put the oil in the transmission or drive it as it is.

what was the quantity drained from tranny and how much was poured? was it checked after warm up drive & topped up ??

is it a PKDM Swift or a JDM. please find out axle code over the id plate of vehicle and share.

Stick With Factory Specified Oil i.e 75W-90 Or 80w-90 as per User Manual

Dont Try Anything Else...Only Use Recommended Viscosity Gear Oil From Known Brand Like Caltex/ZIC/Shell Or Pak Suzuki Genuine Oil

Suzuki Recommends GL4 oil 75W90 if I am not wrong. First try changing that make sure its GL4 and not GL5. Problem should resolve. If there is any physical damage than u have no choice except to change gearbox when they completely fail.

yes on all your points. Because customers will lose their minds if they priced out new repair parts for their manual transmission.

Well sadly there's no such phenomenon to minimise or cancel the whine sound from transmission. Once it has started whining no fix. Get it inspected to someone technical. Maybe they messed with the clutch bearing or pressure plate.

Sadly I don't have any idea which brand the oil was or how much was poured. It wasn't topped up for sure.

Was the transmission filled with car on ramps or jacks?

Swift required 2.2 litter GL4, 75W90 gear oil.
Most mechanic fills only 2 litter to save 3rd bottle which cause problem later because of filling less than required quantity.

Most dont even bother for GL4 and pour in GL5 which causes gear clash

Had it checked, the oil level was fine. Don't know if it's gl4 or gl5. Three mechanics said I need to change the gear assembly which costs 50k. But it can still run quite a bit despite the whining sound.

Besides this, there's constant scraping sound which resembles either a faulty bearing or worn out belt. Got the belts checked, ac belt was worn out and had it changed. The scraping sound still happens when in neutral and increases with speed. Got all pulleys checked, no fault. Might be air leaking or something but I have no idea.

Ac mechanic there's sound in ac compressor and costs 27k to change, but ac works fine so not changing it either.

Final situation, gearbox whining sound (constant) scraping sound (constant). So far I'm convinced this is how all Swifts sound like and if it does, I don't like it.

They said Swifts are mostly trouble free, mine is a piece of junk nobody can fix because they can't figure out the problem even.

AC compressor noise is built in fault of swift. Some kind or kir kir sound and then screeching sound. It increases with the acceleration and goes off when I switch off the AC. Genuine compressor is about 160K, I had compressor issue at 120K ODO with my swift, after so many finding I decided to replace with Duet Compressor (Denso SC06E scroll compressor) and it's working fine now. In July 2021 It costed 14K for compressor and 2.5K for gas filling and 1K labour.

If noise is from AC compressor, it may work without any impact on cooling but it will damage the condenser and AC pipes in long run. So it is better to replace the compressor of it is making noise.

To rule out bearing noise, switch OFF the AC and check, if noise goes off then it must be from AC compressor, if it still exists it must be from Adjuster pulley. To rule out further, disconnect the AC pulley belt and then check.

Regarding whining noise from gear box, you can use Liqui Moly gear oil treatment additive (20 gm tube). Mix it in gear oil, it worked for most of the users.

I'm not having the compressor changed as the guy said I'd have to change everything, including the condenser. When it goes totally bad I'll have it done.

This is 50gm so should I use half or put it all in?

I'll have the adjustor pulley checked and revert. Its not making any difference to the drive but the scraping noise is irritating.

Get the compressor replace otherwise it will damage the condenser and AC lines., Then you have to change the condenser also, genuine compressor is around 58K, japanese one is in 25K,

20gm is ok for 2.2 litter of gear oil, but check the usage from their website first foe exact quantity.

Is your mechanic checking level with car on ramps?

Take your car to someone who repairs manual gearboxes, it will be most economical option.

The ac guy said I'd have to replace everything anyway. So waiting on it would be a good idea. He said the damage was caused due to a choked condenser which is not very convincing to begin with. I'll see if I could find a genuine compressor in Shershah market in Karachi.

On the website it says 20 gm of the tube is sufficient for 1 liter of oil so I believe 50 gms would be required. Anybody having used it would be the best to tell.

Do you know of a place I could find it in Karachi? I can't wait a week for them to deliver from Lahore.

He put it on Jack to check. The repair men said I'd have to change the gearbox but despite the noise it still can run another 25-30k kms. It costs 50k so not wanting to having it replaced. If the gearbox addititive works it'd save me a lot of hassle.

Your oil level is wrong if the car was on jacks when it was filled or checked, the requirement for filling or checking gearbox oil is to keep the car straight and level then check/adjust/fill the gearbox.

Same for diffs in rwd cars/trucks

And now even automatic transmissions require this as most are overflow fill type.

Your gearbox bearings and gears probably got damaged by running on low oil if you had it filled/checked like this.
