Xulfiqar bhai any idea which grease is recommended by Toyota? Only written "BLACK" & "YELLOW". Car in question is Toyota Cressida/Mark2 1989. These snaps are from US version user manual.

When you buy a cv boot repair kit from toyota, it comes with 5 clamps, 2 boots, and 3 or 4 packets of grease

The inner joint grease is yellow and slightly semi solid, the outer grease is black and a bit stiffer,

IMC also sell the repair kits for corolla but you wont like the price, they sell for equal to usd 70 for one axle

Honda also sell this yellow grease for inner tulip joint and black for rzeppa cv joint

My question was what are the best after market alternatives of these 'Black & yellow' greases? I'm sure i cannot buy axles for my car from Toyota now..

the yellow grease is actually an NLGI1 PU grease usually used in electric motor bearings - its used in tulip joint because its very thin base oil.

you can also use a lithium soap wheel bearing grease in there too.

for CV joints - use a moly additized lithium soap grease or polyurea if you can find it (make sure to completely clean the whole joint from everywhere when changing grease chemistry.

Mobil Polyrex 461 EP is the grease i should look for? I will be good for "Black & Yellow" greases?

For cleaning petrol is good and after that brake cleaner to remove any residue of petrol, OK?

for cleaning, first wipe everything clean, then wash with solvent like petrol then finally wash with a very strong soap and boiling water to remove all traces of petrol and oils from the joints - dont be alarmed when the joint siezes solid after washing, greasing will make it move again.

polyrex is ok for inner - for outer stick to lithium soap stuff with lots of moly in it (usual cvj grease)

make sure to pack the right weight/amount of grease in the joint. specially the inner joint - people assume that the 300 grams required is a printing mistake.

dont jump the gun. Please read the whole recommendation,

wipe off heavy grease
wash with petrol / solvent
wash with strong soap and boiling water (extreme necessary step)

using grease right after the petrol cleanup will cause the grease to breakdown and kill the CV joint.

I have a "Rubber Grease tube" and a "Silicon Grease tube"...
Not exactly sure what the difference is, i use both for rubber parts lubrication... Is there a specific difference?

Rubber grease is usually castor oil with some polypropylene glycol thickened with some clay, silicone grease is not similar

If they would just wash the item to remove all traces of oils from the metal surfaces, they wont face any damage.

But you cannot help it, for them their ustaad is more holy than science

Honda also sell this yellow grease for inner tulip joint

I recently had inner cv joints boots of a civic 8th gen changed and refilled with yellow honda cv joint inboard grease. I bought two tubes which I'm guessing are around 140gms each( I weighed them manually on a precise digital food scale since I couldn't find quantity written anywhere, neither online). My understanding was that one tube for each CV inner boot, however the mechanic who was assembling the joints put half tube in one joint and the other half in other joint and explicitly told me that it would leak if he put anymore - so I listened to his recommendation.

Now, assuming my grease quantity measurement is correct, I'm afraid that he put around 70-75gms in each cv inner boot whereas the recommended amount I saw in a service manual was about 100-110gms. What should be the best course of action now? Should I have him unclamp the boots and squeeze a little more grease in each, or leave it as it is?

the inner tulips take the full tube which is about 120 grams of grease approximately - it seems like its a silly amount of grease but its correct for the tulip joint. The outers take about 90 to 100 grams only (measure the grease without the container)

I dont know how careful your guy is under the car, however if he can pull it out, uncrimp it and repack it without allowing dirt or debris in - then its great,

I understand, it weighed 150g with the container so I subtracted 10g for the grease quantity. Anyhow, got the remainder of the grease filled up-to the required weight today keeping in mind the cleanliness precautions.

Hi All,

Had a question about Silicone Oil. I know it's used for lubrication of treadmills and weaving loom belts.

Can it be used for Fan belts in the engine bay?

Can it sustain the temperatures there?

Also, can it be used to coat spark plug boots and coils?

not oil but silicone grease is used on spark plug boots to prevent them from sticking, Do not use this on serpentine belt - under any circumstances.

those circumstances include drinking after huqqa too - leave belt dry.

btw - silicone grease is a high temp grease but with poor greasing properties, meaning it cannot take heavy load.

WD-40 Silicone spray is advertised as Fan Belt dressing. Is that really ok?
