Head Light Buff Semi D.I.Y

Hi,

As few would agree that Sunday is the slowest day of the week. So decided to kill time by taking out the headlamps at home n take them to the Buff Guy @ montgomery. Head lights had scratches on them which were unbearable for me.However for a guy like my brother (Gives a damn about cars) the lights were as good as new. While i had loosen the bumper from top i noticed that the A/C compressor had oil spilled over it and by the time dirt had sticked to it making the compressor brown!, So decided to remove the whole bumper to wash the compressor with Kerosin Oil.. Here are the pics of before and after:

Lights are looking good.
How much improvement was observed in the light output?

Light output was already perfect. Just the visual was effected. My eye wasnt just able to accept the scrateches visible on the lense.

Haaah.. long story
there are 3 types of persons whom i met for this.
Guy1 = 150/-Rs
Guy2 = 300/-Rs
Guy3 = 500/-Rs
First i gave the lights to the 1st guy, Who started the buffing and in the middle he realised that the scratches are going no where. So he stopped and apologised " Sir yeh meray say nahi jaa rahay nishaan"
Gave it to the 2nd guy, as the electricity was gone to left my servant there to get it done and bring the lights back home when done. The Servant came home with the lights and believe me that 2nd guy had ruined the lights, The lights were all foggy with scratches all over the lights.. He had used a rough sandpaper which had made deep scratches to the lights even he could not get them removed with the buff. Then came the 3rd guy!! Finally gave the lights to the 3rd guy the next day. He took 2 straight hours to remove the scratches which the 2nd guy had given. ...
In Other words = 300 + 500 = Paid 800/-Rs

Excellent work !!!! I thnk this is a very productive work you did instead of lying around lazily on a sunday evening however my question is ...... why didnt u choose the Buff guy carefully in the first place ?

As per my info (plz correct me if i am wrong) the front lights of JDM alto are 18000/pair which IMO is a very high cost ...... you should consider urself a lucky guy if the lights were not damaged permanently by unskilled/cheap labour.

Yes u r right!! I shouldve gone for the right guy the first place. The right guy was not available on Sunday, but (Mujhay Bohat Zor say Aayi Hui Thi ) to get the lights buffed on Sunday. Otherwise had to take half leave from Office on Monday.. Ultimately had to request boss to allow to go to Montgomery for 3 hours...

Your headlights weren't in a bad shape, honestly you made this move too early. Did you apply any plastic protection over the lenses? If you did not, your lenses will be hit by oxidation earlier than usual as the protection film over the lens is destroyed after buffing. Meguiar's and 3M headlight restoration kits have these, you might want to buy one of you don't want ruined headlight lenses in a matter of 12 months.

You can contact Dubai Autos in islamabad/rawalpindi, Optimum Motorsport in Karachi, they will most likely ship the kit to you. Otherwise go to any renowned store that shelves Meguiar's or 3M in Lahore and they'll have it. Buy the whole kit.

It's very important and if you neglect this part, you'll be needing new headlight lenses sooner or later and they don't come separate so you'll end up buying a pair of headlights.

Without any protection, the lenses won't really have much scratches but they'll start to get yellow as time passes by which is worse.

Bro, so now its an ongoing process, Apply the UV coating every week/month?
Can i end up in getting some protectant sprayed to the head light just as Hardener being sprayed to metal parts.. As leats it would protect the light?

Naa no need to apply it every month, a good application using a rotary applicator once is enough, although you can use it over time as well.

Same here.When the shopkeeper said 65K, i said Bhai jee puri Show ki price nahi pouch raha.. He said front complete show is for 2 lacs..
65K is the rate of u get them out of the show, the shops which have them separatly hanged were asking 46 - 48K...
