@nagar1 bhai was of great help with my recent tour. Sad that I didn't get to see the completed Skardu road but can't really complain, I got to cross deosai twice. The owners of Rama Paragon in Rama where we stayed told us you can't even take your cars to chilum chowki let alone Deosai. The deosai road (if you can call it that) is not a joke but the locals were exaggerating a lot. With Skardu road closed we had no option but to go via Deosai. It takes very long to cross on cars. We even got stuck for three hours at night before the first turn while descending because of about 15 trucks that were coming up and they were getting stuck on the turn due to mud and rocks and their sheer weight. Kudos to the truck drivers for not cracking under pressure. They said they were there since 10AM and had nothing to eat.
Probably the scariest moment of the trip was when those big trucks with giant metal bumpers were crossing within inches of our cars. The jeep behind us took a hit on the quarterpanel. Going down those turns in the pitch black with hardly anyone around was a feeling we will never forget.
Our plan was to return via Skardu-Juglot road but it's opening date got pushed further so we had no option but to return the same way we came. We rented a jeep for the family because there was no way our cars were gonna climb up there with all the luggage and people. It took all the strength our cars had to climb those turns with just the drivers but shukar Allah ka we crossed Deosai from Skardu side safely.
We took our cars to Rama, Rama Meadows, crossed Deosai twice without any problems. It's was difficult and challenging and the risks were there. The cars took some hits and were shaken properly. If you are planning to go there on cars, exercise caution and take things very slowly.
