Honda City 04 IDSi heating up on high speed

Bought this Honda City in December last year, last week was the first time I took it on long drive out of Isb - Rwp area.
Before going, I got the oil changed (shell 10W 40), plugs changed, tappets adjusted, coils replaced, fan belt changed and other general tuning.

Now, I got on motorway around 4pm and AC was on since I started my journey. When I was somewhere between Chakri and Kalarkahar, the hot temp light started blinking. Luckily I noticed it right away, turned the AC off and parked the car on the side. the water in reservoir bottle was boiling, so I poured water on radiator and added poured some water in the bottle and closed it.

Without AC and with speed under 70, I reached kalarkahar, where I parked the car, turned it off, poured water on radiator, let it cool for 5 min. Then opened the radiator cap, the water was low, added around half a liter of water to fill it then closed it and started my journey again. Luckily I had the OBDII adapter installed in the car so I started monitoring my temperature. Without AC, with speed till 80 the temp was reaching 100-105C

On my journey till Sahiwal, the max temp I saw was 111C. Throughout the journey I stopped where ever I could to check water in reservoir bottle and pour some water on radiator to cool it down.

Got it checked in Sahiwal, motor on one of the fans was stuck causing the increase in temp.
Now, with AC and speed till 80-85km the temp stays under 98C

Problem is if I go above 90 even without AC the temps starts rising and within minutes the temp reaches 107 and that's where I remove my foot from the accelerator.

The main issue was crossing the hilly area before Kalarkahar on my way back. The car wouldn't give any response, even in 2nd gear I was barely getting any speed, the temp rose upto 113C (around 9pm last night).

In Sahiwal, the mechanic checked the head gas kit with those tests like opening the radiator cap with running engine and pressing accelerator, the water didn't come out at high speed, there were no bubbles or oil in water. He told my that my gas kit is okay.

Sorry for the big story. Now I don't understand where the problem lies, is it the cooling system or the engine is weak?

No matter how hard I press the car won't go above 110, even on motorway. But, never felt lack of power locally, in Isb, the response is good, it is not reducing oil, no smoke of any kind, AC cooling is awesome, fuel average is amazing. While getting the car tuned the mechanic said "crank ki halki si awaz hai engine ma"

So need expert opninion on where the problem lies as I don't want to take it to a mechanic who'll just open up the whole engine to make more money for himself.

please, never put cold water on a hot engine , wait for it to get to ambient temp.

Didn't put water on engine, it was room temp water on radiator.

Current status is that the car is heating on speed above 90

on idle even with AC on, the temp won't go above 97-98.

brother , firstly, use coolant in the car, not plain water.
and secondly get your car's radiator serviced , if it's overheating on highway speeds, the probability is radiator is partially clogged and lesser coolant is passing through it to keep the engine cold.
and while you get the radiator serviced, also get it's water pump and cooling fans checked.

Had same issue with a civic.

I can guarantee that you need to replace head gasket with a genuine one.

Get it done from honda... My issue was exact same thing. It only came on long drives at speeds over 90. Honda couldnt diagnose it thru conventional tests and i couldnt repeat the heatin problem without going on motorway and driving for an hour for it to come.

In city the problem will never show on highway itll screw you.

Make sure to get original head gasket and dont argue saying that there are no signs of other head gasket problems.

Your gasket is early stage damaged and is causing the heating.

I was made to change thermostat valves radiator caps radiator itself coolant and what not. It was the head gasket. Get it changed before oil starts mixing.

To check whether engine is weak or not get compression test done,it cost me Rs 500 from honda sahiwal. Check from internet what the readings should be.
For crank type sound which mechanic said, you may like to view videos related to piston clap on youtube to get idea of sound. piston clap is simply petrol engine sounding like diesel when cold.
If engine is diagnosed as weak then wait for it to die completely then swap new engine ,dont get repaired it wont work.

Something similar happened with a friend's city 2015. His radiator was chocked. Cleaned it and issue resolved.

Radiator cooling system ka last step hota ha jb radiator ka pressure cap. Close hone pr bottle sa pani lata ha. Is k bad he pani kam Hota.

Dear just a week ago I had a journey on my city 2010 from Rahim Yar Khan to Lahore. I used to drive this car within city and never had the chance to take it to a 600 km long drive so I had no idea that it can heat up. I started my journey at 11 pm only to avoid hot day temperature. After completing only hundred kms the heat light started blinking and so did my heart. It was 12 at night and no mechanic available. I let the car cool and added a about a glass of water as replacement. After driving few more kms the light turned on again so i found a sleeping electrician, paid 500 only to convert the fan from auto to non stop direct as i was under the impression that auto function is not working properly. I started my journey again but the problem persisted. During the journey i noticed that the light turns on only if i go above 70ks, so I continued the journey at 60ks and the 7 hrs journey completed in 16hrs. Upon arrival in lahore i took the car to Ayob radiator wala in lahore and paid 2500 for radiator service. During service the condition of the radiator was blaming me because it was almost completely clogged and the coolant was unable to circulate properly. Car was reducing water during the journey constantly and my clue was that it was evaporating, the real reason for water reduction was found after two days when a house got leaked and upon repairing we found the leak in water body.
I shared my long story with you so that you could understand where the problem may lies. You should start with radiator service, if there is any leak get it replaced immediately. Get you water body and hoses checked and replace them if anything wrong. A disfunctional thermostat valve will cause the overheat and nobody gives importance to it. If every thing is fine then change thermostat valve. Dont go for head gasket change or any other major overhauling, do these maintenance first and give some time to your car after that share your experience

Ok first step first as some of the early gurus are also here with only Honda experience.
Brother let's start with the basics
1: what was present in the radiator before this issue water or coolant ?
2: jammed fan motor did caused this issue but did the mechanic physically checked the thermostat valve??

3: ok after that how much water is reduced in the radiator and reservoir bottle on routine drive in isb?

4: ok is there any engine ol consumption noted by you? Did you check the engine oil levels regularly or not?

5: ok 2nd last and important thing compression test for engine health...

6: then comes the head gasket

1. Simple tap water
   Now I am feeling the importance of Coolant and will soon put coolant in both cars.

2. No he didn't check the thermostat valve

3. On my way back, it didn't reduce much water, less than a glass from reservoir bottle. Next morning I opened the radiator, and it took around half a liter to fill it up.
   On normal drive in Islamabad, it is not reducing any water, as I check it on every Sunday. Radiator is always full, Reservoir bottle gets a little low, like half a glass of water to fill it up.

4. Not reducing too much engine oil. Changed oil after 3500km, and there was almost 3.5 liter when sucked out at shell pump. Oil used is 10W 40. and yes oil is checked once every week on Sunday along with water in radiator.

5. Where can I get the compression test done in Islamabad/Rawalpindi and how much will it cost?

6. Yes, before going on the trip, got the tappets adjusted. The mechanic didn't say anything about head gasket. The only thing he told me was sound of crank.

Ok simple
Any idea what we're the valve clearence setted to and did the mechanic adjusted them step by step by following cam shaft timing gear marks or just by looking at rockers????

If the clearence is fine then replace the head gasket and along with crankshaft bearings and std rings after performing the honing of cylinder bore.

Remember you can perform just head gasket change too it would solve the problem but remember step by step diagnostic procedures would save you a lot of money and time.

I am not so sure what he did, but he adjusted the tappets one by one by using some tool which he moved between the tappets to measure the gap between them (I guess) and adjusting it accordingly one by one.

I am not a technical person and don't know exactly what he used
