Honda City 1.3L Prosmatic has a bad fuel average

Hello everyone! I'm using Honda City 1300cc Prosmatic l 2016. Only thing which disappoints me a BAD FUEL AVERAGE -- Seriously! I'm having 10.5km/l to 11.2km/l when I bought this car. Recently, I filled my car tank and reset the meter. Now, It is showing me 9.4km/l. Just to make sure these readings I have made some manual calculations which actually really surprised me. By manual calculations, I have counted almost 7.5km/l to 8km/l. My car is fully maintained by Honda City Sales Dealership, Kalma Chowk, Lahore. Looking forward for you.

How many KM has the covered?
A clogged catalytic converter might be the reason. But It shouldn't be the case on an year old car.

It has done almost 260kms.

Bro, I always drive with a soft paddle. I never drive above 1500RPMs at a (40-60km/h) constant speed.

This is why you are getting a bad average.
Accelerating slowly, driving very slow, doing short trips will return a bad mileage.

What you should do is :
Accelerate maintaining rpms between 2 and 3k.
Maintain coasting speeds of 70kmph.
Avoid doing shirt trips. (Under 10kms)

This is based on my experience of driving a civic prosmatec and should work on city prosmatec as well.

Brother, May be you are right. But, according to your suggestion. I cannot make it.

This thing is almost impossible for me. My car mostly changes the gear as it touches to 2k.
Maintain coasting speed of 70kmph.
I'm based in Lahore. And, it's really hard for me to maintain 70kmph.
Avoid doing short trips (Under 10kms)
I usually drive 50kms in a day. But, all the trips are under 10kms might be. How can I avoid them? Should I take a long route?

Your car does not have a fixed rpm at which it changes gear. Gear change depends on how hard or soft you are pressing the gas pedal. Press it enough so that it remains between 2-3k rpms until you maintain coasting speed.

It is hard to maintain 70kmph all the time but atleast do not drive it at 40kmph when the road is empty. If your entire journey involves the roads where you cannot drive above 40kmph and involves frequent stops, speed brakers and turns, then I am afraid you cannot get a better mileage.

By short trips I meant going to the market, mosque, etc.

Work of engine = Drag Force x time.
The whole reason of accelerating this way is to reduce the time your engine is in drag mode.
Accelerating too slow decreases the drag force but increases the time to reach your cruising speed.

P.S this is not a physics formula.

Brother, many of people said press your gas paddle gently to enjoy a better fuel efficiency. By this driving habit, I didn't found any useful results. But, Now I'll try your method tomorrow. I hope it will fix my problem. And, I also used to avoid to put my car on a idle mode.

Exactly! I'm thinking the same. Sometimes it feels more sluggish. 1.3L (Manual) engine is fine for such body but 1.3L Prosmatic engine isn't perfect for this one. 1.5L (Manual & Prosmatic) might be a perfect ratio with this body size.

Went to Honda's Official Dealership today. Questioned them for a bad average. They suggestion me few things to do.
- Clean your air-filter on a regular basis in these days.
- Always drive with a 50:50 ratio of high-octane and a normal one.
- Release some gas from fuel tank.
- Try to change your petrol stations. Such as: Total Pump (Gulberg, Zahoor Ilahi Rd) PSO (Jaid Rd) Shell (Lahore Cantonment).

Just came back home from a dealership. The distance from a dealership to my home would be almost a 10kms. I'm having these figures. I know these aren't stable figures. But, let's hope for the best.

High octane is good....but it is 20% more expensive than normal petrol......btw 11.8 seems ok for automatic....i am getting 13.1 on my manual...

I have a city 2016 1.3 prosmatec. Mostly driven by the driver or my wife. Within islamabad we don't get an average higher than 11. That's pretty normal for this car. 1.3 manual is better but prosmatec is very bad with the fuel eco.
My 1.8 civic gives better average than the city

Which area of Lahore do you live in? As the traffic congestion situation of that area might be the reason
