Honda City 1.5 Neo Restoration (sort of)

I have been a fan of the 1.5L NEO ever since I drove one a few years back. The car was running on CNG and I was quite impressed by its performance. So when I got the chance, I replaced my 1.3L one with a 1.5L NEO.

When I bought the car it had CNG in it and was meant to be a daily runner and for the past year and a half it has been running as one with minor repairs. However, now that we have a second car at home, I believed it was time to restore some of its former glory.

I set a couple of rules for myself before taking up the challenge. First, this is not going to be a ground-up sort of restoration rather a salvage project. Second, the expenditure will be kept at a minimum (though essentials will not be compromised).

The car requires work in all areas including mechanical, body and interior.

First things first, here is a list of stuff already completed on the car:

Suspension

1. Replaced 4 x coil springs and shock absorbers.
2. Replaced 2 x axles
3. Replaced all bushes and balljoints
4. Replaced track rods
5. Replaced 2 x front disk brakes and pads
6. Replaced 2 x rear drums and shoes.
7. Replaced brake booster
8. Serviced braking system.
9. TO BE DONE - Power steering pump replacement.

Engine
1. Removed CNG kit
2. Replaced all oil seals
3. Had throttle body and injectors serviced
4. Replaced injector seals.
5. Replaced MAF sensors.
6. Engine timing adjustment after CNG removal.
7. Replaced fuel filter and fuel lines.
8. TO BE DONE - Engine mountings replacement.
9. TO BE DONE - Engine retuning / timing
10. TO BE DONE - Any other engine related work.

Though interior and bodywork are least priority, I wanted to list a few items that I need PW member's help with.

Interior (TO BE DONE)

1. Replace steering wheel with 2001 model
2. Replace instrument binacle
3. Replace air vents and broken grills.
4. Complete interior cleaning.
5. Door cars proper fitting.

Body (TO BE DONE)
1. Repair and repaint front and rear bumber
2. Repair and repaint hood and both front fendors
3. Rubbing and other stuff.

Need Help With
1. Original emblems (like the ones shown in the picture below).

1. Interior grills, AC vents and steering wheel (like the ones shown below).

I am not sure if this thread will be followed by many, but hopefully it will serve as a project log for me and I will continue posting stuff that might help others. I will also post pictures of the car tomorrow.

have eagle eye civic also but i can confirm about its road grip! it sticks to the road ill 120 atleast! v good handling!

7 gen civic is the worst civic ever made try to compare it with 4 gen civic and you will find 4 gen civic much much much better in handling and road grip with soft and light ride

hmm my cars are maintained, no problem in steering assembly or axles etc! both 7th gen civic and city hypervalve perform very good till 120! completely satisfied with these family sedans! what else do one require? they are better in handling/braking than toyotas! well its only my opinion!

City has a very good road grip and at present owning a 7th gen civic and it stays with me even m running at 150kmph. Ur the first guy to point out city'z handling plus declaring ur 88 better than a 7th gen civic. I hope u will share ur first hand xperience bcoz thre r alot of 7th gen users here

this my first hand experience bro 7 gen has good grip but not the best forget 4 gen compare it with 6 gen and you will find a huge difference

I hav 7th Gen since 2008 at my place. Hav driven it more than 50k kms myself plz tell me how did u find its road grip not better then 4th gen? Plz elaborate. U find ur 4th gen 88 better then a eagle eye just tell me how. I hav owned a 99 city myself and its road grip was better than my 95 civic in all expects. Havent kept a 6th gen but hav driven them n didnt find them better then 7th gen.

so you call you self a super genius right do you have prove of taking your car to that speed I have taken my liana to 180km/h so you say it have superb road grip ehh I can share pics if you want every car stick to the road if driving fast on straight line try to change lane on that speed and you will know super genius plz explain this

who compared 7 gen and liana I only said high speed can't give you a idea of road grip and for the selfie part

Leave him Adil bhai...u know we have kept two 95 civic in past then moved on 99 and now having 2001-02....this one is greatest of all...no doubt...such a smooth acceleration...

1.5 neo is a beauty. Dnt listen to ppl like @saboor73 he has nothing better to do than get humiliated by other members for passing false information. @cooldevil is the right guy to help u out, his city was modified and a true beauty. All the best
