Honda City 2011 Front Shocks

Asalam-o-Alaikum Brothers,

My City (2011) front shocks makes strong hissing sound when cold in morning. However, they are complete silent in Afternoon (Sunlight). Does it mean shocks life is over?

Also I feel front of my car is more stiffer than as compare to rear, I can feel strong thumping on front when going over bumps.

Are the shocks are gone?

Isn't it more like the sound is there after the car has been standing for a couple of hours or so? The cold weather makes it worse.

I am facing the same in 2012 City iVtec M/T. The sound is more similar to say the plastic lining/shields rubbing against one another but actually it comes from the shocks whenever there's compression of the dampers.

The sound is there every morning but disappears/dampens after say 15 minutes of driving/manoeuvring.

I suspect the shock absorbers need replacement. Lets wait for the experts @Xulfiqar @rustam54 @capsat @SER_GTR .

How much miles has your car run? Mine is ~155,000.

Another issue i face is a crr crr crr sound whenever the car is in 2nd gear or above and between 1.75 and 2.25 rpm range. No sound if i stretch every gear from the very beginning. But if i drive with a light foot i.e. shifting gears at max 2.5k rpm with slow acceleration the sound is there in every gear except the first.

before you start the car in morning bounce all 4 corners of the car and notice the sound. put car on lift and remove wheels check for any leakage / spill marks over shock absorbers (sturts).

In my case, no sound is there on bouncing. It comes whenever there is compression of dampers while driving e.g. over speed bumps etc. Or maybe i am not bouncing it enough.

Any help on the sound from the transmission?

Your shocks are sounding like exact mine. It only happens in morning or if car is parked over night. My car is driven 92000kms so far.

Due to front suspension stiffness I suspect shocks are gone. But still waiting for experts opinions.

About your transmission noise, have you checked your gear oil? Is it due to change?

Yes maintenance has been as per book. Gear oil changed at recommended intervals.

hmmm then get is checked from dealership. It might be costly but they will diagnose the issue. Also have you changed your car's shocks before?

If You Feel Car Gets Bouncy While Driving On Uneven Road And Over Bumps/Speed Breakers...Makes Sound Then Shocks Need Replacement Or They Are Starting To Leak

Physically Inspect Under Fender To Check Oil Leakage...But Seems Like They Likely Need Replacement Soon

This is the sign of weak shock absorbers. Replace them with new ones or get rebuild shocks from Bilal Gunj or any good machinist. The grgrgr sound is maybe due to faulty CV joint. Replace the faulty CVJ with Chinese part. Replace shocks as early as possible because this may damage your suspension parts.

I take my car to Honda Aabpara, Lahore. They have test driven the car and they claim the sound appears to be coming from inside the transmission and can be diagnosed only after opening it up. Since the car is otherwise perfect in performance & efficiency they've advised me to live with it until my transmission is due for a dismounting for clutch plate etc.

No the car is still on the factory fitted shocks.

My car's has become a bit noisy on unpaved roads and the legendary cat-eyes but the shocks perform well except for annoying hissing sound you hear as well. Most of the noise is from inside the cabin i.e dashboard etc and a couple of clunking sounds i hear from the suspension.

There are no leaks no torn boots or bushes whatsoever. However on self inspection of the car on the lift i hear a rattling sound if i punch the front right tire of my car. The sound isn't there if i ask somebody to firmly hold the tie rod in place. Will get it diagnosed in a few weeks since have to make time for that.

No CV joint has nothing to do with the sound.

CV Joint sounds different. Its not CV Joint. My mechanic suggest to get these shocks repair, so I'm confused between getting newer ones or repair them.

Do you feel ride stiffness between front and rear? Like I feel my car's front is more stiff as compared to rear. Do you see anything like that as well?

If replacing is the only solution i'd recommend OEM parts.

Don't be confused just be logical. IMHO parts which get consumed with time and miles, and are of course important for the vehicle and the passengers' safety should't be repaired. They've done their job. OEM replacements though a bit costly on the price tag are always peace of mind.

The Kabli stuff and the Kharadia repairs(since we don't have good facilities) although make it seem like your car is as good as new but usually turn out to be a bad decision at the end and you may end up spending more than what would've cost you for an OEM replacement.

Its noisy at the front in potholes, but it's not stiff as such. Of course it's different from when it was new but i think 150k+ kms on all kind of terrain from Multan to Babusar Top, all on factory fitted parts except for the routine maintenance replacements is supposed to make this much difference.

What brand/size tyres are you using and what's the air pressure you maintain?

Yeah I'm also going to install Original new shocks. As second opinion and final inspection/verdict I'm going to visit Honda Breeze (Multan) tomorrow for their opinion. Then will make decision accordingly.
