Honda City Air Conditioning Problem

Hello Pakwheelers? I need to ask you something related to air conditioning. I have kept my Honda City 2016 Prosmatec for more than 3.5years till now. But, I have notice something went wrong with the air conditioning. The problem used to occur few of times not on a regular conditions. Whenever, I drive my car for more than 40kms in city the compressor gets freeze and it feels A/C stopped working and started making noise from air vents. At the beginning, I ignored and moved on. But over a month ago it starts again and this time I switched off the engine and opened the bonnet then I saw the compressor pipe became freeze. The is literally ice on that. But within seconds it starts melting and went back to car and starts up the engine and turned the AC on and it went working fine - Completely Normal. So, It was completely unusual for me. I have kept Honda Civic 2015 too but never faced this issue ever with that car.
Anyhow, Is this normal? If not then what would be the suggestions you guys have for me. As Honda dealerships are asking me for 3.5K initial checkup charges to let me know the issue which I think isn't fair to pay only to determine the problem. So, I'm posting the pictures so you may have an idea. Also, I have taken picture over a minute later after examining by myself. So, that time it was at the melting point. But, You guys are much mature to judge. And, This happened to me for more than 4-5times.

I had to face ice freezing problem on ac pipes same as shown in your pictures, I checked it 2-3 Times with 3S dealers and later they identified that lower discharge pipe of a/c had a leakage resulting ice freezing on pipes, I got it changed under warranty claim and the problem was solved for now., I had got it claimed in March 2018., so far it’s working fine Alhamdolilah!

I believe that your car AC lower discharge hose is leaked from somewhere, the gas leakage process is very very slow, so these can be the symptoms and i would recommend you to visit HONDA DEALERSHIP and make an arrogant behavior that you would not leave the place until your problem is solved by the same day. OR from which city do you belong to?? if you can manage to travel LAHORE and approach to HONDA GATEWAY; then that is a best place to get your problem solved.

There are 4 possibilities, the first one I have discussed in above paragraph whereas;
2- Change the valve TXV, if found faulty
3- Change the thermostat, if found faulty
4- Faulty Evaporator temperature sensor, if found faulty.

As above, leakage could be slow. Bigger honda 3s dealears have an ac recovery machine than can suck the gas out and measure how much was there. 420g is the system capacity.

If its less then you have a leak. I check this first. Do not listen to them if they say its normal for gas to get less over time , or the sensor is faulty, or if there was a leak there would be no gas left in the system etc, etc. If the gas is low you have a leak, and its probably an o-ring gone bad. You can also visually check your connection points, if there is any oily residue around it. Get a flash light and check the connection points. For me the top o-ring on the condensor was bad.

I'm really surprised that you have faced the same issue that I have been facing since a long. As my car isn't under warranty right now. So can you please let me know roughly how much bill was generated for your lower discharge AC pipe under your warranty.
Yeah, I belongs to Lahore and HONDA GATEWAY is not far away from me. I used to maintained my car from HONDA POINT, Bhatta Chowk. But upon your reference I will check my car through GATEWAY. Also, If it's fine for you can you please suggest someone to meet as you have been passed through this whole scenario. However, I don't really much about how it actually works and what are the components jointly works like TXV, Evaporator, Thermostat and lower discharge pipe. So I believe they can easily wrong myself as I'm not more into it.

Yes @roony and @adeelbhutta79 cleared me son well. Now, First I will check at my own all of these check-point to make sure myself. And then I'm gonna take my car to the 3S dealership to checked it through professionals. Thanks to you guys!

Yeah, I have heard alot about him. There is one at Mozang Rd, Lahore. I will visit him too and will what would be the circumstances. As my car isn't under warranty so Honda will defiantly throw a rocket to my pocket. But, I will check from both end then gonna update this thread for sure.

Brother! Suggestions from me and roony (Haroon) are good enough for you to understand but we are not technical people. However; 3S dealerships are very expensive. The time when I got my car inspectioned and settled the issue it was in March 2018. I still remember that another customer came over there and reported the same problem. The technician had given him a quote of 8,000 at that time. I’m not sure for current circumstances but I think they would charge you around 13,000-15,000. It’s my guess only.
You can see there a sensible technician named Yaar Muhammad (a Pathan guy) plus service manager or warranty claim manager named Mr. Khalid who is a very cooperative person. These are 2 references and I hope your problem will be solved In Sha Allah.

depends really. punjab car wanted 7500 to fill the gas, while honda charged 4600. But check out both and see what suits you. I saw the leak point myself. Honda wanted 18k just to take it all apart and test each individual part for leaks.

Whereever u go, make sure they have equipment to fill gas by weight, in case system is opened and gas needs refilling.

A.o.a All,

I am owing honda city 2010 automatic 1.3 liter. I am facing a weird problem
with the AC. I usually travel on motorway ISL-LHR. My Car AC stops
cooling when I try going above 110km/h its AC trips and as soon as I
get back below 110km/h speed AC cools just fine like a charm. There is
no heating issue in car no heat symptoms.

When it trips after 100kmph then does it turn on again itself after sometime?

Yes it turns to normal as soon as I reduce the speed from 110km/h ... It works perfectly with in city even in rushy area but at highway I am facing this strange issue.

Hello I visited Punjab Car AC yesterday as per your recommendations. And, my experience went good. They welcomed my car with a very nice gesture and a person came to ask the problem. I let him know everything and he understands it well. And he checked the cabin filter which need to be clean. They he called Mr Hassan who is so genuine by his presence. He guided me that this problem comes every other Honda City. And there's no problem at all with your car. The compressor trips the AC and starts it on time. All you have to make your habit is to off the AC for 20secs every after 20kms or so. Otherwise, Put the fan speed at its max so that will cool particles would blown up and it won't get freeze. This is the only solution of this problem. Although, if you haven't made your AC service from past 2years then you should go for it. Rest of it's all cleared.
