Hotels Booking in Hunza

Hi Everyone,

I am planning a tour to Hunza with family during first or second week of July 18, and will stay in Hunza for three nights. I am a little confused if the hotel booking should be done right now or I should get a room when i reach in Hunza.

I am thinking about booking PTDC in advance but would want to hear experts opinion before I go ahead and do the payments.

Thanks and hopefully your opinion will benefit a lot of other travelers as well.

I would suggest you to book your hotel at least one week before your trip specially when you are traveling with family. PTDC is quite famous in Hunza so its better to book it early. if you have enough budget then you can also check darbar hotel. Last year i stayed one night in PTDC and 3 nights in darbar hotel, both are good for family.

Last year I went to Khunjerab in 2nd week of July, went without booking and there was not a single room available in any hotel of Karimabad including PTDC. Ended up staying in a guest house, it was a good experience.

@farrukhzeeshan So it was easy to get Guest House or that was also tough? And did you feel that the rates were higher than normal due to on spot booking?

I am also considering PTDC but a little confused as some people have left negative feedback about them recently on Google Maps.

Can you please tell me details on what type of room you booked and what did they charge?

PTDC has two types of rooms.. the older rooms are not good and i will not recommend you but the new rooms are good enough. Keep in mind that they do not offer double bed, they have rooms with 2 single bed. I do not remember exactly but i think the charges of newer rooms are around 4-5K without breakfast whereas i got rooms in darbar hotel in 6K including single mattress with breakfast.

Pl suggest route to gilgit

Best route would be Abbottabad -> Naran -> Babusar Top -> Chilas -> Raikot Bridge. Other route is Abbottabad -> KKH -> Besham -> Chillas.

Babusar Top route is shorter than the other one and road condition is also good. From Chillas to Raikot Bridge the road has bad patches. Once you cross the bridge, the road is great and you will love the drive. This road will lead you to a point from where you can either go to Hunza or towards Gilgit.

Guest house was arranged by a staff member of PTDC hotel, it was better than hotel rooms. The owner's son was an Engineering student at UET Lahore, and we had a good chat. There were 3 or 4 other families as well, but he gave me kind of portion in the house with a big room with attached washroom having king size bed with 2 mattresses, plus a lounge (kind of typical pathan style bethak) and a small kitchen. The house had a big lawn with lot of apricot trees and we ate fresh apricots in the breakfast and took almost 2kg apricots with us, kids really enjoyed fruit picking activity.

How much travelling from Naran to chillas and then chillas to hunza

It took us 9 hours to reach hunza from naran including the time we spent at babusar top, lake, lunch at chillas... i think the total travelling time is 6 hours

Chillas to hunza is around 4 hours and from hunza to sust is 3 hour drive and from sust to khunjerab pass is 1 hour

Yaar sab questions ek sath hi puch lo
Road is good throughout naran to hunza except chillas to raikot bridge which is around minimum one hour drive... babusar top se chillas thora though hai but if you have experience of driving then u wont find it tough... when going down hill keep ur car in lower gear that is it and do not use clutch n ur good to go... most of the time i had to keep my car in 1st gear while going down from babusar to chilas

How long does it take from:
a- Naran to Babusar Top.
b- Babusar Top to Chillas (downhill)
c- Chillas to Babusar Top (Uphill)

Naran-Babusar Top, 1.5-2 hrs
Babusar Top to Chilas 50-60 min
Uphill Chilas to Babusar 70-80 min
Chilas to Babusar portion requires very careful driving

I shall be taking my fortuner as well. Since it's my first SUV and also my first trip to mountains other than Murre, I am not very comfortable driving it. Secondly, little worried about road conditions and long haul driving. Uptill Murre, I have no problem as we have been going to Murree every year for last 20 years. If you have any idea about road conditions from Gilgit - Astore - Rama Meadows - Minimarg/Domail, please guide.
I am planning a two weeks trip in first week of July-18.
Lahore - Islamabad - Naran - Gilgit - Astore/Rama/Minimarg - Gilgit - Hunza - Khunjrab - Hunza - Naran - Islamabad - Lahore.
Any feedback/update/advise shall be greatly appreciated.
