Dear Sarmad,
Following are the imp points w.r.t CCTV
Case -1: (Only live Monitoring, no recording requirement)
That mainly used by peoples who dont like much automation and only want to see who is at main gate before they appraoch to open the gate manually or through intercom button. Commax intercom also have the button for unlocking the mini gate.Pic given below;
So if you have live display near intercom, just after confirmation of personality at gate, you can push the button for opening of mini gate. There is no need to go outside. Camera cable in all the cases regardless of (live/ CCTV) shall be LAN cable. LAN cable is capable of running all the cameras regardless of they are IP camera, AV camera or any other camera.
Case -2: (CCTV recording requirement)
If you have plan for CCTV, then my recommendation is you keep CCTV other than live monitoring. It means all CCTV recording is taking place in DVR which is kept at a quite secret place about which only house owner knows no body else. In case of theft or any other unwanted event, now days robbers also gone along with DVR so CCTV is of no use if robbers are successful in finding the DVR. For this, all the camera cables pipes shall be concealed and DVR location shall be secret.
Following are points of consideration for CCTV provision;
1- Identify all points for which you need recording
2- Lay concealed PVC pipes of 1 " from starting point till end point, end point = point near which you have plan to place DVR. This step shall be completed before building plaster
3- Lay down LAN cable in conduit once plaster finished and wiring stage have been come
4- Provide following facilities at place where you have plan to place DVR;
a) Small ventilation fan to eject heat in summers if DVR palce is concealed
b) UPS Wire connection
c) HDMI Cable (so that you can connect it to computer as and when required), it shall be long enough to connect with computer of LCD whatever is the case
5- Visit market , take info and select any model of good camera (HIK Vision is famous in PK), IP cameras are costly and regular cameras are cheaper as compared to of IP

6- e.g. if you have 7 cameras, 7 wires will go into DVR then outlet will be only 1 HDMI which you can see on computer or LCD.
Above are only the guideline, you can place DVR anywhere where you want. Some peoples have placed DVR in cabinet behind the LCD and attached HDMI with main LCD so that they can have live views at all the time while seeing TV. So it varied from case to case. W.r.t more specific requirements, its highly recommend to visit a good camera shop and get more guidance from them w.r.t design provisions during construction stage. More detailed working you will have, less trouble you will have during living.
