How effective and safe is a 'chor' switch?

Since Corollas are a hot cake for thieves, I'd like to know how effective a 'chor' switch is on a Corolla Altis 2017 (facelift). Also, advise on which is the best one to get. Honestly, I've never worried too much about any of the other cars I've owned in the past getting stolen but I'm being paranoid about the Altis because of how notoriously infamous it is for getting stolen.

Yes it is effective. you can get two type of chor switch. with one type when you insert key to ignition annd try to start a vehicle, it will show all speedometer lights but wont start untill u push the chor switch. and second type when you switch On the ignition it wont show speedometer lights untill you push the chor switch. With type one chor switch, I have heard, they do panga with the cars computer to ditch the person starting vehicle with all speedometer lights On. and other one is simple method i guess. Not sure but thats how it works.

You can buy a simple gear lock and use it. It will be very hard for theif to break it.

i have installed first type of chore switch in my cuore2011...yes it is effective because (Allah na karay aap k sath balkay kisi k bhi sath kuch ulta seedha ho lakin...) its time consuming for the thieves...it ll take time to uninstall it...baqi kisi lock ya chore switch ki un k nazdeek koi importance nahi

Corolla altis 2017 already have immobilizer which is pretty effective and its not easy to hack it.
Mine is a 2016 1.8 altis cvti with immobilizer. I have parked it at tons of places where picking it up would be easy for thieves. I haven't faced any issue. Recite ya hafeezu 11 times when you leave your precious belongings and home. Allah will protect you and your belongings.

Do not mess with electrical systems of your car. There isn't any need of chor switch. If your car starts with a key then you got safest immobilizer system in your hand.
Never make a duplicate key of your car from outside.

There is no security system which cannot be bypassed. They all serve one purpose; to increase the time it takes for a thieve to bypass it.
I once parked my Mehran with a padlock in steering cross. Came back 20 minutes later to find the doors open and Padlock nearly gone.. I was 2 minutes early for the thieves to get through my "security measures".
I bought a car with an aftermarket security system. It was a Sentry immobilizer with a wireless remote. In essence it was just a wireless relay that would disconnect your ignition wire when energized. To bypass it, all i had to do was to disconnect the 12V supply going to the Sentry box.
I've read about machines which can cut the "immobilizer" key for your car. All it needs is your VIN number and probably 4 digit secret PIN code which is written in the owner manual or can be pulled from the OBD port. This meant to serve the "Stealership" purpose and ironically it does, as thieves are getting upto the mark now.. Wish we had as educated mechanics as we have thieves.
To cut it short, safety measures are good but nothing is foolproof. I would still recommend a "Chore Switch".

How to wire this type of switch

In theory, install a switch in series somewhere between the ignition switch and the starter relay or the starter relay control depending upon your car wiring schematic.
It's not important what circuit you want to put your switch in. What's important is how "Easy" it can be spotted by a potential thief. If a thief open a hood or get under a steering column and sees a joint straightaway, probably your "Electrician" did not deserve to get paid.

In my opinion "chor switch" is useless. Altis already have the immoblizer key function and it is effective. Anything can be hacked. Just be carefull while parking the car. Just check the doars closed properly and the windows.. make sure to keep an eye for 2 to 3 minutes after parking your vehicle..

Interesting discussion. I agree with the point that even the most fool proof sys can be by passed, the sole purpose of these sys is to gain some time. I follow a youtube channel named scotty kilmer. He mentioned an interesting way of keeping the cars safe. “Take out the starting relay from fuse box” , now how effective is that?
