Lets talk how I went into buying the Mate 9. I have always been an Android kind of guy, never really liked the iPhone. Add to that, I always prefer form over function, so honestly speaking it gets a little tough to select a phone which runs Android and also looks very nice in your hands.
Previously I had owned various HTC phones and lately I was using a Sony Xperia Z3 Dual in Copper. The Sony Xperia Z3 had served me well, but it was getting a bit problematic. So when its glass back broke for the second time, I decided to get a new phone.
Naturally, one can't help but take note of the Samsung phones. I had never owned a Samsung smartphone, as the Galaxies never vowed me in more ways than one. Specs wise, they have absolutely been amazing. But in looks dept they had been lacking. The looks are a subjective area and highly debatable, so you may not agree with my taste buds. I understand. The Note 7 had famously been recalled, and I was in no mood to go for an older model Note 5. So I looked past the Samsungs.
Then I came across the OnePlus 3T. I had known the OnePlus brand since 1+1 days, and the recent OP3T is a very beautifully designed phone with killer specs. It did face some tough questions from the press, when it emerged that OnePlus triggers some performance gains temporarily, when it detects benchmarking software. However, the performance has now been tested and it continues to get good raves, so I almost committed myself to get one.
During last week, somehow I saw a Huawei Mate 8 in a colleague's hand and I quite liked it. So he gave me a quick demo, which was somewhat satisfying. So I started researching the Huawei smartphone brand, and I was pleasantly surprised by how far they had come from 3-4 years ago.
Enter Huawei Mate 9
When I saw the new Mate 9, I really liked the phone.
Features
It is blistering fast (Huawei's own Quad Core K_iron 960 processor, 4GB RAM and ARM's Mali G71 GPU), big (5.96 inches), has a very sleek body, feels solid in hand (190 grams) due to unimetal construction, and has a 2 day battery (4000 mAH), and a solid performance camera (dual 20MP/12MP Leica lens setup).
Eventually I had to go out to the retail showroom and meet the new Mate 9 in person. As it is a strong lurker, I fell for it immediately.
Love at first sight, yes it was a bit romantic.
Fate had sealed it. I had to have it.
I purchased a Huawei Mate 9 smartphone a couple of days back after some research into current Android ecosystem.
