Another thing i wanted to ask is about the rear space. Is it adequate? Is it like Civic (for example), or is it smaller than the competition. I haven't yet seen the car myself but this lack of rear space (legroom and headroom both) has been mentioned earlier in this thread, so want to hear from you.

Because this is how it is all over the world. Kia and Hyundai offer more features, longer warranty and are still priced below Honda and Toyota. In Pakistan too they should be priced according to their badge value just like the rest of the world.

Please note that it's not the car that has gotten any hate, it's the price.

No the price of Elantra and Civic/Corolla in USA are fairly similar. Corolla and Civic have more trims that end up costing more, but at the lower end, there is at best just $1000 price difference. And Civic in USA has a 2.0L engine versus 1.8L old af engine we have here.

$1000 = PKR 1,50,000 and a few weeks in the past it was PKR 1,60,000. Even if you subtract that from the price of Altis X 1.8, it is 38.5, which is a better price for Elantra. If you subtract it from the lower trim i.e. Altis 1.6, then it should be around 32.5 - 33.5. An even better price, and also in line with the rest of the world.

Why 40.5 in Pakistan?

You said it in your example yourself. Elantra is priced lower in the US, it's true for most respectable markets in the world.

And again, Elantra is a very good car. But if they wanted to price it above Civic and Corolla, they should have brought the current generation of Elantra.

Pricing also doesn't make sense as Honda and Toyota both are established players in Pakistan market with lots of dealers, mechanical support and know-how across Pakistan along with easy and cheap spare parts availability. This isn't the case in other global markets where Toyota and Honda do not enjoy such an edge over others. So new entrants like Hyundai will have to keep their prices much lower than the difference in prices internationally in order to make their proposition viable to end users until they develop a decent distribution and after sale support network here.

Go visit the US websites of Civic and Elantra and you'll see both have like $200 price difference. And Civic comes with a 2.0L engine there. It comes with a 1.8L engine here. It's actually the Civic that seems overpriced when you look at what Elantra is offering for 40.5 lac. The 2.0L engine alone could have made it 42-43 lac.

Well in USA as far as i know both corolla and civic are 2.0 NA engine. Here we are comparing 1.8 with 2.0.
Ask atlas and indus to install 2.0 engine in their cars, they will definitely increase the prices by 2 lac

My assumption is not based on any calculation but i think elantra should be 1 to 1.5 lac cheaper than its current price

You're looking at the wrong variant of Elantra. The one we have here is the SEL variant.

Also, for the fourth time, the Civic here is a 1.8L variant, not 2.0L like in the US.
