The 'Robust transmission' has threads filled with complaints here on pakwheels, way more than any other transmission. All experts have called the aisin cvt a failure. There's literally a super long thread here in which a guy literally tries everything to get the jerkiness out of the transmission and couldn't. The only solution for him is a new transmission.
About the 'kachra', i guess you dont understand the concept of different markets having different stuff according to the needs. The 'kachra' transmission is still available for the new 7th gen elantra. The cvt was only given to a few markets so that epa ratings can be met. Hyundai used to be fully in the cvt camp before, but then moved back to regular autos.
CVTs are great in theory. Should have better performance and fuel efficiency, but in reality they have pretty high powertrain losses and with manufacturers putting in fake shifting, they dont perform any better or get any better fuel efficiency in reality compared to regular autos but have much lower reliability. You have the perfect example of the 1.6 4sp auto corolla getting about the same mileage as grande. EPA mileage is not a proper indicator of reality and is very easy to game that system by technologies like cvt. The only reason manufacturers are forcing cvts on customers is cause they are cheaper than modern automatic transmissions to manufacture.
