yes it is the same one...you don't seem to pay attention to the updates. I did mention that it is with Irfan painter. Anyways it won't be bare metal now as it was sprayed a coat of primer a few days back.

I'm too busy these days, mid term exams are going on so I just login and read the 2-3 most recent replies.

There is not a whole lot been done due to the Eid holidays. The painters were busy right up till the day before Eid to hand over cars with minor work like a dented fender or a paintable bumper as that earns them quick cash...quite understandable. However they are taking a whole week off now...not understandable so the real action would start in a few days. I have been visiting the painters almost every other day to check on the progress and there have been two apprentices that have been working on the bus whenever i visited. There is some minor body work that needs to be done which would be tackled after the eid holidays. The work involves pulling out a dent on the windscreen pillar (which is sealed and does not have access to push the dent out) There is another small dent the size of a 5 rupee coin that would probably be accessed without making any incisions. I have been taking pictures but it might be days before I get a chance to post those as I am flying to Karachi to take part in the VCCCP rally.

I check on the bus every other day and work is on. Filler was applied and allowed to dry. The body is being wet sanded these days. I'll try and take pictures on my next visit.

You opt for Sikkens.. is it better than DuPont? I have heard DuPont paints are the best available in the market...

glasurit and standox refinishing systems are the best IMO, the problem is that they are pretty pricey.

I trust my painters judgement and have given him a free hand. Its the surface preparation that counts the most and i see that he is working hard.

Please do post more pictures, the shinny surface looked absolutely stunning, I have often being toying with the idea of not painting a vehicle when the bare metal turns out so beautiful, just cover it in 3-4 coats of lacquer. What do you think about that in your experience?

Actually I might even try that someday...just not with Phoenix as I am restoring it for a client who wants it painted red and white. I saw pictures of a bug that was done this way. When i get round to it (if) I'll apply stickers shaped like flames (like i had on my white GT) and let the vehicle sit in the open for a week for it to get surface rust. THEN I'll remove the stickers to reveal bare metal under the stickers and clear coat it all...too many plans, so few good VW's to restore and even less hours in a day..

The surface preperation is going ahead full steam at Irfan's. It is being wet sanded a second time and would be sprayed with primer another time before minor blemishes are touched up with tiny amounts of filler and wet sanded yet again. After this treatment the first covering coat of paint would be applied followed by more touch ups if needed and wet sanding before the final coat is applied in a paint booth.
