hello guys i m planning to buy mazda rx8 .....
specs are
2004
auto fully loaded with stock engine
wat shoud be its cost ... ?
secondly i live in pesh ... so can i run it on normal petrol ?
i want rx8 for show sha not for drag or drift ... coz my planning is to use is a a daily driven max 15 km per day .... so is it good coz i heard mazda engins ae disposable ? etc etc
and wat about auto resale ?

and wats its consumption ratio ?

or shoudl i go for 2000 civic ?

The rotary engine's are not ''disposable'', they're just like any other normal engine's they just need to be taken care of more properly. If you can maintain it, I DOUBT it'll give you ANY type's of problem's. The fuel average, would be around 6-7 KM/L for a Type E A/T if you drive normally, 5-6KM/L maximum if you have your foot glued to the acclerator and your RPM needle on the Redline all the time.

the only added thing you need is to put a litre or 750 ml of very good quality 2 stroke oil in the tank whenver you fill up petrol fully - and run the engine to redline at least once a week.

Other than that - dont use fully synthetic oil in its engine - the oil mixing is because Mazda had recalled all RX8s to increase the volume output of its oil injection pumps as they were causing the apex seals to chatter and sieze sometimes. As we dont have a Mazda dealership in Pakistan to do this - mix oil with fuel - 2 stroke is ashless oil hence keeps the exhaust clean without smelling like a ricksha

The price's for a good clean RX-8 with a very good engine compression start from 12lacs onward's. The price's also vary upon the overall condition of the car aswell as the feature's and the option's. The spark plug's are expensive if you go for the OEM ones or after-market branded ones, but you don't need to change them so often so I wouldn't that them into consideration.

You can run it on normal petrol, but it does start knocking due to the unproper filteration of local petrol. and not-up-to-the standard Octane rating, Hi-Octane however has a better Octane rating and isn't that expensive as compared to Super/Supreme, but if your buying a car like an RX-8 which is unique in it's own way, you'll need to take care of it aswell.

@Poster: Having owned a superb RX-8 Type S manual 6-speed for 2 years I think I can tell you safely not to put any oil or additive in the fuel tank as that would destroy the entire fuel injection/delivery system!

A few words of advice:

1. Only run on hi-octane as regular/super will cause pinging (knocking) and the engine's apex seals will get damaged. Also the catalytic converter will get choked very soon.

2. The genuine spark plugs dont need to be replaced before 50,000 kms under normal driving conditions.

3. Engine oil needs to be topped up roughly 0.5 litre for every 500 kms running. Engine oil consumption is common to all Mazda rotary engines. Genuine Mazda engine oil filters are available and also other filters such as new Nissan Sunny 1.3 are compatible with it. I used to change the oil every 3000 kms and used Havoline Formula 10W-30 through out.

My fuel consumption was about 6 km/litre on average but the auto RX-8 may do better.

I've read a couple of article's on Octane booster's it's mostly used for slightly tuned car's which need a good Octane rating to make the most out of there engine's, but you shouldn't rely on Octane booster's all the time, if you use them continously for a pretty good time the engine get's use to the additive and will need it all the time even if you feed your car with Hi-Octane.

I would suggest you don't go for Octane booster's or any fuel additive's, I am sure somewhere in Peshawar there would be a petrol station which has Hi-Octane fuel with a good RON.

I have repaired many faltering rotarys including the 13BREW - and this nice renesis, oil mixing will not harm any component in the fuelling system - and about 3/4 of a litre of ashless 2 stroke oil over 40 litres of petrol does not exactly cause smoking to choke anything.

The original engine is setup to feed lubricating oil into the combustion chamber to lube the apex seals - what I said was to help in this matter as the original system is not upto spec to keep up with engine demands.

pinging in a rotary is a very sure sign of a coked engine. Usually happens when the owners do not give it an italian tune up now and then.

Sir just to add some, the owner's manual has required 94 RON and it will knock at anything which is other then Hi Octane.

I have had a good experience with Shell Hi Octane.

Also look for the dampers, with the weight car can go really down if they are bad as the ground clearance is low for our country (naturally it is a sports car).

I once owned the 2003 5 speeder manual which only revs to around 7,000 RPM but it was a trouble free car.

Do not know about the face lift new models.

Whoever told you the engine is disposable is an idiot. Here's advice from an RX-8 owner you can take and enjoy the car there after:

1) The market for this car is anywhere from 12 to 24 lacs depending on year, options, condition.

2) The can only run on Hi-Octane, it pings/knocks otherwise. Never mix regular with hi-octane. Only stupid cheapskates do that.

3) Use 10w-40 Castrol GTX on the car. It is recommended for it. Never use a synthetic as they will murder your engine. No matter what any idiot advises, never do that. It causes the apex seals to become sticky and eventually fall right out of the rotor and cause major damage to the housing.

4) Premixing is a very good idea but only use the finest quality of 2-stroke oil. However we don't have that here. The only harm you can do is at max choke the fuel filter. Which is a small price to pay compared to an engine which will cost over 350,000 RS.

5) The car's fuel consumption if its an A/T is about 5km/l

6) Resale is good depending on the car's condition, there are very few good RX-8s left now.

7) The car is a bit heavy on maintenance, it eats everything from tires to brake pads and oil.

Just remember my golden words:

1) Only idiots and cheapskates who can't afford the car run it on normal fuel

2) Only complete morons with zero knowledge about the rotary engine run it on synthetic oils like Mobil-1, etc.

ZIC and Emarat both have a very high quality ashless 2 stroke oil - Ive used them and they are worth every penny - no foul smelling exhaust and no sticky residue buildup (if the engine is upto temperature)

the fuel your RX8 wants is a little concoction you make - from half n half fuel and HOBC. As I said we dont have a Mazda dealership here who can reflash the ECU for a lower spec fuel and more oil injection - hence we need to work around it..

btw the items you need from outside pakistan are
air filter
fuel filter
genuine mazda (blue) oil filters

the rest is pretty simple, plugs will not wear out less than 100,000 kms - change coolant every 20,000 kms - and brake fluid every year (regardless of kms - it becomes watery - as it absorbs water, losing its hydraulic locking effect - and can also corrode brake pistons in the calipers too)
