I myself installed inverter ac 3 days ago and compressor trips for some odd reason at 28 and above looking for expert advice.

However just to let you know, I've got 1.5 ton AC and it takes around 2 to 3 units per hour on average based on my meter reading. I'm waiting for proper tool to calculate the amps etc..

Most Inverter AC works like gears, it's not like CVT.

1st gear - ~10 A
2nd gear - ~8 A
3rd gear - ~6 A
4th gear - ~4 A
5th gear - ~2 A
Neutral - below 2 A (compressor trips)

It does not have 6th gear to slow down the compressor speed further than 2A, so instead it trips. Its common in inverters at 26-30C thermostat range.

It's actually a good thing, means that the AC needs less than 2A power to maintain the room temperature. In that case, it trips, because compressor cannot slow down further.

Same is the case with my one ton Kenwood Inverter which i bought recently. No matter what's the temperature i set on AC, the minimum amperes which it takes is 3.6. I checked the meter. Total units consumed for 24 hours (approximately) were 16 with almost 11 hours of AC (including 2 ceiling fans, 1 medium sized fridge, 1 LCD TV & few energy savers).

That's helpful. I'm waiting to get SONOFF POW to attach to my ac so I can monitor live the actual consumption.

However once the compressor starts again, does it take the usual full power to start the compressor and then eventually reduce the amps taken? If yes, then I don't think there might be any actual savings if it's working just like the normal ones..

What are your thoughts?

I do not know the actual amp consumption, however at night for 11 hours my meter shows 14 units consumed on an average.

During these 11 hours I had my 1.5 ton AC, 1 full size inverter fridge, 1 deep freezer, 1 water dispenser, few leds, a tv and 2 fans.

I believe it isn't that bad is it? FYI the AC had been running at 27 all night.

Yes, that tools will be very useful. Inverters mostly trip below 2A power consumption, so i assume your AC is maintaining room temperature at around 2A which is perfect figure.

Inverter slowly speed up at starting which is why they can be run on UPS and generators with ease. You don't need to worry about starting high consumption.

Inverters do save money, if set at 24C and above and if they are attaining room temperature with ease.

Underpowered. It's even has to work very hard to achieve 28-30C.

In Gym, one has to push himself an inch beyond his capacity and that extra inch brings improvements & growth, but AC system does not work that way. It will keep working hard, without growing it's cooling capacity . So now you are stuck with underpowered AC. But could be some other issue as well.

2 Ton AC is maintaining at 2-3A at 24C at a large room. I just tested.

So should I keep it at 28 and let the compressor turn on/off throughout the night or should I keep it running throughout the night on 27 (assuming it's taking the minimum load 2A)..

What is a SONOFF POW? can you share all the details?

Thermostat: As per your own comfort, forget on/off thing.
AC fan speed: Auto
Mode: Cool
Air Swing: On
Ceiling fan: Off

Ceiling fan is bad for AC. AC will consume less electriciy at 24C with ceiling fan off, than 26C with ceiling fan on.

Ceiling fan also suck warm air from outside the room as soon as the room door is opened and also suck heat from roof, both reduce AC efficiency.

Keeping AC fan speed on high does not remove adequate humidity from room, so it's best to leave it on auto.

That's the real advanced thing to monitor average power consumption precisely.

These clamp meter, ammeters etc only show real time ampere readings, but don't provide an average consumption figure or stats.

Thanks mate. That's really helpful. I was also wondering to wether to keep AC fan on full speed or leave it at auto.. and you answered it.

I'll keep using it like this for now. Once I connect Sonoff, I'll then experiment different stuff and share the most optimum way I find.

On a side note, to be honest, idky people say inverter cooling isn't good. It's par if not better than usual ACs (i think it's better). Or maybe my old AC has aged well.

@s15 the 2 ton a.c maintaining 2-3 amps, what brand is it? Ac on ground or first floor? Maintains 2-3 even in afternoon at 24C??

LG dual inverter at relative house 2 ton.

It runs 24/7 in living room on first floor at 24-26C. Daytime it takes just 1A more than night. 2-4A power consumption after 1 to 1.5 hour of starting and cools very very quickly.

Mode is set to whatever i mentioned in previous post.

They never care about electricity consumption etc, but i tested for my own experience with it.

Wow. I have the same LG Dual inverter model and having to switch to orient 2 ton because the lg cooling is crap.

Are you sure you feel cold in their 24-26 LG ac? Isnt the blower sound at fan speed 2 and 3 really high?
