That doesn't provide much benefit except for turn your AC into a nesting hole in Mar-May season. You're definitely missing a huge chunk of insulation on your pipes, which is resulting in energy losses.

Sounds good, I will install the insulation on the missing portion myself. I was hoping to have the box cover the exposed portion but I'm assuming my AC guy ran out of insulation and left that portion exposed.

All that water below is due to condensation caused by cold pipes exchanging heat with hot humid air around it

I agree I hate that nesting box.

I have to clear nests form it every six months. Damn birds also pecked at and tore the insulation at that end.

May be if you put shoppers/Styrofoam or something inside that nesting box you wouldn't be needing to clean the nesting box every 6 months.

I tried, birds take out the packing bit by bit and discard it and then make their nests

Agreed. This cover is only a nesting box in my AC. If I remove the nest and reattach the cover, sparrows here build their nest again within 24 hours. So i have removed it and covered wires etc with card board piece and tape.

So what is bad if they built a nest there? I don't mind it. They have even nested at the hole where pipes enter the indoor unit through the wall. I listen to their sweet sounds daily. Good background sound for work and sleep.

Their beats could corrode copper pipes. Not safe to let birds build their nest in air conditioning units.

better is to place empty cartons over outer unit for bird nesting purpose.

They push\throw that away...

My outer sits right in front of my room window....I tried to keep the carton flat on top of outer. 3 days 3 times the pigeons pushed it towards the window side and it slid and got held with the window, and i kept it back up 3 times... The 4th day on return from work that carton was gone again, but this time they pushed it other side once for all... the carton fell 3 floors down and gone...... I gave up since then.... Those pigeons have brains i believe 🤦🏻‍♂️

I got my Split Ac installed from Tahir with 30 minutes vacuum and it was calm, polite, professional and a hassle free process of AC installation.

He had professional knowledge of HVAC systems and automatically followed all the installation manual instructions, which is extremely rare in Pakistan.
