Is the BRV still a good buy?

Hello,

I am looking to buy a new car in the budget of under 5M and am interested in the BR-V. The plan is to use this car for a couple of years and then upgrade to something better.

However, I have heard it does not have good resale value and would be hard to sell. Also the current generation is already five years old and may lose even more value with time or if a new shape is launched. Otherwise, the car fulfills most of my requirements. The only other options in this price are city/yaris/alsvin.

Are there any other options I should look into? Any opinions/suggestions?

BRV is majboori of middle class seeking 7 seats. also if new, no workshop trips for few years.

Will be used as a family car within the city. Have three teenagers so can fit in a sedan as well but the extra space in BRV is nice. Fuel economy is not the main concern as we have a cultus for everyday use. I have always owned a sedan so the BR-V looked interesting as it is a little bigger and different.

I eventually want to buy an SUV but dont have the budget right now. So the plan is to sell this car in couple of years and upgrade. Main concern is if it will be harder to sell than a regular sedan or not.

If you don't need 7 seats then you don't need BR-V.
I would suggest to wait a bit more till the launch of HR-V. It may fulfil your needs and it ticks all the boxes but just one which is budget. So wait a bit more, on launch check the car yourself, and then go ahead with it.
BR-V is not comfortable MPV.

I am using BR-V since 2019, if 7 seats is not a requirement then don't go for it, in this price you can consider Chery tiggo 4 pro, I am also considering to replace our BR-V with chery tiggo 4

Hmm. Thanks for the replies. I will look into the Chery and HR-V.

The only issue with waiting is that the dollar rate is changing everyday and I am afraid by the time I save another million, even the BR-V would be out of my budget. That is why I would rather buy a car right now and sell it later than take the risk of waiting. I would probably go for the top of the line Yaris or City if not he BR-V.

If your main concern is resale then stick to the market cars which mainly are civic, city, rolla and yaris under your budget (new, old).

Its just an expensive model of Rickshaw. When it was launched, I went to Honda but was really disappointed to see it in real. Yes in pictures it may look good but not in real.
Quite uncomfortable, heavy on fuel and hard to sell. Don’t fall for it.
In 5 million, you can buy a lot of better things but that all depends upon your preferences and your requirements. If you are falling for it for its seven seats then forget it again. Those last 2 seats can be hardly used for small children. Better buy some old proper SUV in this price tag. Atleast your money will be worth spent.

Buy a 2003 onward model Prado by adding some lacs more in 5 million

at this price it's sales are equivalent to none, it just has 7 seats a gear and a engine, no features at all & now the market is full of feature packed vehicles, so br-v is quite dead, i'm pretty sure they will discontinue it after launching hr-v.

Or Altis 1.6 X

However if you want a vehicle with SUV / MPV feel then do check

What's the opinion on Stonic?

I am hesitant about going for the newer companies like MG and Cherry but the Stonic fits in my budget and the quality seems better than City/Yaris. Its also readily available.

Maintenance wise it will be on higher side compared to city, yaris and rolla. Do compare the maintenance cost like oil change, cabin/oil/air filters. Also check some common spare parts cost as well and then make a decision. Again, if you are concerned about resale as well then always go with "market ki gari".

Its a honda city with 7 seats.
Been using it for daily commute in pindi/isl and weekend family trips.
Getting avg of 14.5.
The road clearance is good even when fully loaded.
Fits 2 kids bicycles in the back keeping second row seats intact.
Its a car with its own niche.

Comfort is comparable to city and not corolla.
Wind noise at high speeds is pretty bad.
Seating capacity is good. Been to pirsohawa with 7 adults multiple times, without anyone complaining.
Power is fine. Fuel Economy in bumper to bumper traffic is bad, comes down to 11- 12, at constant speeds is quite good for its size.
AC is good, even for back seats.

Bottomline: if you are upgrading to a brv then its good. If you want to compare to corolla, civic (or prado (lolz)), then you will not like it.

Went to the showroom to see the BR-V again. Liked the exterior but overall just felt something was missing in terms of quality.

Also visited Kia and Hyundai to see Stonic and Elantra. Both fit the budget and felt much better quality. Will probably decide between one of these.

I went on brv from Islamabad to all northern areas with 5 people on board and alot of luggage. That car never disappoint on any point amazing road grip on mountains terrains. Amazing pick-up by its size and avg was 10 to 11 . I would highly recommend brv
