Chinese manufacturing has issues deep down, while they are great in shitting out 10,000 units / hour, it doesnt mean those are top shelf. This is where legacy and experience counts and why brands like toyota and isuzu take the trophy.
You recall the old foton trucks with the cummins engine and the 6L80e auto? While these two components were durable (both were not from china) and reliable the rest of the truck fell apart around it. You cannot drive an engine and transmission without a frame, driveline and carriagework.
Speaking of american market, chinese market specific vehicles wont quite cut it here, e.g. general contractors usually buy local made Ford F250 here - and use it like a hired mule, they pull 10 ton trailers with it through the rough and dont bother with small things like rough pavement, they will literally drag it through muddy hills going upwards to their jobsite atleast 150 kms away from civic infrastructure.
Your point of tarrif, trump and market shows how shallow your knowledge is - and I wont be wrong to assume that your opinion is basically a parroting of some clickbait videos or articles you found.
Real world knowledge of a specific subject is critically important to actually create an analysis.
The mexican forces picture is cute, now why are they using BYD? That needs to be analyzed - whats the EOL of these, whats the SLA of the supplier and what do the financials look like?
E.g. Gormint of any pk province using an offbrand van as a makeshift ambulance doesnt become a yardstick of durability!
