I believe he is right. ROI on introducing a sedan platform will take more time. By introducing SUVs in 3.2 - 3.4 million range they will avoid all the competition. It is all about disruptions. SUVs are somehow better suited for our environment as well. Better ground clearance and can be used on rough tracks ( not offroading). Roads in Karachi and other major cities except Islamabad and Lahore are disaster.
They got success with Sportage due to zero competition in its segment and better value to Money compared to high end mid sized sedans. Furthermore, Elantra will be a use case for them if they want to introduce cerato.
