This is the point, Fortuner and Sorento are two different types of vehicles. There is no direct comparison. There is a direct comparison in this thread because here, Sorento and Fortuner both are the only 7 seat SUVs in this price bracket in our market. Fortuner is the proper jeep, but most buyers of Fortuner do not need those features, and they will never take benefit from the Hilux roots of the car. And those same Hilux roots might make Fortuner heavy and probably somewhat less comfortable. This is where things get interesting. I mean I have heard people coming from old Prado to Fortuner complaining that the ride is a downgrade.
Sorento being more car and less jeep should be more comfortable for the passengers, and the powerful 3.5 should be fun to drive too. Just don't take it where road doesn't go. Let see how Sorento does, I feel it'll do good, and maybe it will convince Hyundai to assemble Santa Fe locally, and give buyers another option.
