OK so guys, we should not forget about the Tucson and Sportage fire happened in Pakistan.

I wrote a detailed article on it here https://www.pakwheels.com/blog/after-sportage-fire-in-tucson-should-it-be-ignored/ . In my article I mentioned regarding the multiple recalls and fire issues with Kia and Hyundai vehicles in USA. I referenced the USDM recall with Tucson and Sportage fire and did mention that as of now the issue is related to North American only. I also stressed that the local fires must be thoroughly investigated for any connection with USDM issues.

Guess what, the ABS related fire recall which was only in US is now reported in Australia as well and almost 93000 Tucson are recalled for FIRE HAZARD. So much and so, the owners are told to park your cars outside . If its effecting Hyundai vehicles, it seems soon KIA might also do same.

SO, now its becoming a wide spread issue. I hope Tucson local fire must be investigated.

Do they both share the exact same abs module and sensors? Or does Sportage have a different one?

I believe so both Kia and Hyundai share same because the ABS recall is effecting different vehicles from both brands.

As of ABS module of Sportage and Tucson , need verification.

Why is only Tucson mentioned in this case? It should apply to Sportage also then unless Kia is using a different abs sensor and electrical output for the same.

Moreover this fire hazard of Tucson has also been discovered in Australia. I am wondering if globally it is the same part in entire Tucson/Sporage range across all trims or different as per trim and/or region.

Well it depends when a certain brand declare a recall. Like in US, the same issue of KIA and Hyundai were recalled sometime together, while sometime each brand recalled it individually and at diffrent times. Also this fire recall of Hyundai and Kia is of multiple reasons , and each brand announced it separately.

In US , the ABS recall effects Sorento, Tucson, Santa FE, Kia Optima, Kia Stinger. Keep in mind Stinger is not even made in US. It comes as an import. So, it means the issue is wide spread and not exclusive to USDM.

Yes sometime a supplier can be different or a certain place of manufacturing might have an issue from certain production LOT.

Same like BOSCH fuel pump recall effected vehicle across the globe but everywhere the brand, model range, trim were different.

Like in US, civic hatchback was on recall for fuel pump but NOT the Civic sedan. Hatchback comes to US as an import.

While in many countries outside US, Civic sedan was on fuel pump recall. Additionally Accord in US was on recall for fuel pump and Accord is made in US and uses same pump as in Civic.

I second you on this it has the best value for money and panoramic roof was having a lot of reliability issues as for it not selling right now if you go back 1 year AWD was selling like hot cakes and FWD had MSRP of 4999000 but was available at 4599000 at that time which was the introductory price so people had similar concerns that it is not popular look at it now. For me the difference was 7 lacs between FWD (two lac own) and Alpha so i went with Alpha so far no concerns on stability

I think it’s better to wait for proton x70 awd base variant as it is imo going to be better then alpha and just about 2-3 lacs more expensive and has way more features like being awd and electric boot etc no point in buying alpha

I think at the current moment Alpha is best as KIA has a better network of dealerships than proton. For the future I hope and pray that other players also start competing in this price range and develop good after sales support so that we the customers can benefit. Can you believe this car is 4 lacs cheaper than the turbo civic. I think Honda now seriously needs to consider its prices. I also believe proton and MG can give some serious competition to this car but proton has 1.5 turbo and can have reliability issues. Let's see

That is sad would have upgraded to Sorento if they would have brought the latest gen. Really like the current gen's design

The POS alpha sportage is cheaper than the civic turbo? Good. I see nothing wrong with that.

Although even Sportage Alpha doesn't fall into my budget but after stretching it and selling off my Grande, I was going for it. However, as it a base model/stripped down edition, will I be foregoing lot of important elements that are in 5M and 5.5M FWD/AWD variants?

Secondly what is the possibility of having a test drive of any fan club member along with some feedback....

In the budget ZS or glory 580 pro is better IMO alpha is just really stripped off of basic features if you want a Sportage you should go with fwd at least

Go for it - its a bigger car with better engine and more resale

I would advise you to go for it . What you forego is e-parking brake (brake hold, hill assist), traction control and Panoramic roof if any of those things are on you high priority then look somewhere else.

Rest of the features are same as FWD, Just to make it clearer here is a list:
cruise control, dual zone climate control,3.5' mid, fabric seats, 6 speaker system, auto foldable sidemirrors (heated), front seat head rests that can be adjusted horizontally as well, extendable sun visors, tilt and telescopic steering wheel with controls, leather wrapped steering + gear knob, Push start with smart entry, 7" navigation with android auto/apple car play, rear seat ac vents, rear usb +power socket, rear seats with tilt adjustment, damped glove box, 3 drive modes, lane change indicators, auto headlights with drls, rain sensing wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror, auto window defogger, reverse camera with dynamic guidelines without sensors, full sized alloy spare wheel, 17 inch alloy rims (225/60/17) , manual driver seat height adjustments (without lumbar adjustment),smart welcome system, abs, 2 airbags, fog lights front + rear, half chrome door handles, power windows , immobiliser, air purifier and the famous shark-fin antenna .

Other than the missing stability control everything else is fine. Fwd sportage is the best deal righr now i think. Proton once abailable will be a great option. MG ZS is too over priced in pakistan,
If alpha had the stability control, it was the easidt recommendation

Light foot within City
Light foot within City (with AC)

On GT road at 100 (with AC)
On Motorway at 120 (with AC)
