The number of KIA Sportage on roads keeps on increasing and it already is becoming one of the most common cars you can see especially in cities. There are quite a few reasons for its superb sales performance compared to its competitors and the credit for that should deservedly go to Lucky group's management. However, sales performance of Sportage also sort of a little bit changed my perception about our public preferences. Normally, looks of a car is a very important consideration in car purchase decisions, just like other important details. But what I've realized that, for most people it's not about how pleasing the car looks and feels from exterior or interior, otherwise Sportage had no chance. It's far more important for our public to have a 'bigger and higher car'. Size has suddenly become the number one criteria for many and hence we can see a lot of people graduating 'above' (literally) from a plain vanilla (but beautiful looking) Civic to Sportage.
It's a market trend which is a recent phenomena in our market and Sportage, due to its quick delivery time and reasonable price point, was the major beneficiary from that change in market perceptions in favor of crossovers as opposed to Sedans. All car assemblers in Pakistan have realized this trend and hence the entire focus is suddenly towards launching Crossover or SUVs as there seem to be an endless appetite for that.
